Third Batman to be Titled The Dark Knight Rises
Source: Hero Complex October 27, 2010

In an interview with Hero Complex, Christopher Nolan revealed that the title for his third Batman movie will be The Dark Knight Rises. He added that the villain "won't be the Riddler."

"We'll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we'll be introducing some new ones," Nolan said cryptically. He also said that the studio has agreed with him not to shoot the film in 3D.

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled for a July 20, 2012 release.

Hope it's Better than the Dark Knight. Because I really didn't care for it, out of the past ones.

betall. you dod not like the movie as a whole or just certain parts. i thought it was 1 of the best besides the original. only thing that got on my nerves was when he put the costume on and used that annoying voice. but other than that was a classic to me.

Never understood the hate for voice. I get it because it is a tad annoying. But it's also necessary so people don't realize he's Wayne.

Agree %100. Dark Knight was one of the best superhero flicks of all time. The 1st two Superman movies were up there. Both Iron Man 1 & 2 were up there and Spiderman 1 as well.

However I still hold Michael Keaton on a pedestal for his Batman.

RM Auctions recently declared James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 to be “the world’s most famous car,” but there's no doubt another contender for that title – the Batmobile. One thing that muddies the waters a bit is the fact that the term “Batmobile” actually describes at least three different vehicles: the modified Lincoln Futura concept car from the 60s TV series, the vaguely Corvette-shaped 1989-and-beyond movie cars and now the car from the most recent two movies, the military-spec Tumbler. Michigan-based movie props artist Bob Dullam really likes the Tumbler, so he did what any of us would do in his position – he built one of his own from scratch.

Dullam has been working on his Tumbler over the past five years, using nothing but a chop saw, a reciprocating saw, a drill press, and a Mig welder – all in his non-heated, non-air-conditioned two-car garage. He had no prior car-building experience and nothing but movie DVDs and production stills to go by. Nonetheless, he now has a fully-functioning, incredibly accurate-looking Batmobile.
“Every aspect of it was pulling a rabbit out of a hat,” Dullam told Gizmag. “You have to mount the engine in reverse, so now you’ve got a transmission that’s pointing towards the front of the car, how are going to get a drive shaft to go underneath it and drive it in reverse?”

Challenges like that aside, the car is up and running. He now plans on working on the interior, along with parallel steering within the vehicle’s nose cone, so it can be driven from that area too, just like the car in the movies. Dullam has even been contacted by defense contractors about using their transparent aluminum in the windows. It’s not surprising that he thinks the vehicle will never really be “done,” per se.
“It’s not there yet,” he said. “It may never be there unless I decide I’m tired of the whole thing. It’s an ongoing experiment.”
"If all I did was costumes and busts and things like that... a lot of people do that kind of thing. I want to build a brand name for myself, and to do that, I think you have to rise above and beyond the pack.”

  • Engine: 350 V8 with four-barrel carburetor
  • Transmission: 3-speed turbo
  • Top speed: 150mph (241km/h)
  • Body panels: Epoxy resin reinforced with fiberglass mat
  • Tires: 44-inch Super Swampers (rear)
  • Steering: Rack and pinion power steering via detachable aviator style pistol-grip steering device
  • Weight: Approximately two tons (1.8 metric tons)
  • Dimensions: 15’L x 9’W x 5.5’H (4.5 x 8 x 1.7 meters)
  • Visibility: Round-vehicle video cameras
  • Production cost: Approximately US$50,000 to $100,000
  • Street legality: Nope!

Christopher Nolan reveals title of third Batman film and that ‘it won’t be the Riddler’

Oct. 27, 2010 | 6:25 a.m.
Christopher Nolan. (Liz Baylen / Los Angeles Times)

Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film will be called “The Dark Knight Rises” and though the Gotham City auteur isn’t ready to reveal the villain of his 2012 film, he did eliminate one of the big contenders: “It won’t be the Riddler,” Nolan said in an exclusive interview with Hero Complex.

Riddler rumors were off target. (DC Comics)

Nolan was most eager to talk about the fact that Warner Bros. had agreed with his argument that the film should resist the current 3-D craze and instead use high-definition approaches and IMAX cameras to strike out on a different cinematic path than the stereoscopic technology that, for better or worse, has become the dominant conversation in the blockbuster sector.
Check back here later in the morning for a more in-depth look at that decision and the Nolan ambitions and reasons behind it.
As for the title, it shows the writer-director’s intention to keep his Bruce Wayne trilogy tightly stitched together. “We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones,” Nolan said cryptically. I had an odd thought: What if Nolan somehow brings back Harvey Dent? The only reason I even mention it is because, back during post-production on the second film, Nolan told me that the title “The Dark Knight” was just as much about Dent and his fall from the status of shining-knight civic crusader. Dent was plainly dead at the end of the last film, though, and Nolan has been intent on keeping his Gotham City film firmly rooted in a gritty gangland realism– this isn’t a franchise that has veered off into the supernatural or even much super-science.
Nolan plays things close to the vest — he’s one of the few filmmakers of his generation who actually does wear a vest — and he chuckled when I tried to get a few more details out of him. “Oh, you know me, I don’t talk.” He began our conversation by comparing it with a visit to the dentist’s office. Well, if so, he’s a patient who never opens wide. I asked if he could imagine a time when Warner Bros. would let a filmmaker shoot a Batman script where the villain isn’t one of the signature creations from the comic books. “Ah, Geoff Boucher, master of the leading question,” he said with a chuckle.
That’s when he did agree, however, to eliminate a villain candidate, namely Edward Nigma, the green-suited Riddler, who many people (myself included) assumed was the next natural choice. That character could be taken in a lot of directions — think of Kevin Spacey’s character in “Seven” as a compass point for one of those dark paths — but Nolan and his team are going a different way. As with “Dark Knight,” the new film has a script written by Nolan and his brother, Jonah, and it’s based on a story by the director and David Goyer. Earlier, I got Nolan to take Mr. Freeze off the list and, yes, this is like pulling teeth but don’t think for a minute that I mind. Nolan makes sublime films, and any secrets he wants to keep in place are done so to protect the final product. As for me, I’m hoping now for Hugo Strange who, come to think of it, looks a bit like a dentist…

Just can't put my finger on it, but thought it was the Worst one.

Seen the others more than 5,6, 7 times each
Couldn't watch this one more than Once.

i understand he has to change his voice to cover his real identity but after 2½ hours it gets a lil old. but was an instant classic for me. Heath Ledger stole the movie in my opinion.

I didn't like the Dark Knight either. Very overrated movie. This next one will be crap. I guarantee it.

There has never been a 3rd part of a super hero movie that was actually good.
