Retired at 50 in 1998. Over 12 years and counting now. Wouldn't have it any other way! @):)

Good question! I used to think of 40 as my goal retirement age. Now that I am in my 30's, I realize I have to make some very serious efforts to even retire at all!

Lost my job in July at 49 and decided to hang it up. Don't miss it in the least. I think I will drive a school bus just for something to do and to pick up some spare change.

You must not be making that much...68 is way too old. My dad was a longshoremen and making 125k a year so he retired at 54. I'm a student with school paid for and 27 is obviously just a dream age...since I wont be making that much anytime soon. Maybe if I hit the jackpot or win big on all sports I can quit school..

I make about 90k but in medicine you have no retirement of anykind thus you need to rely on 401k and investments etc. and with the way the market has been my guy claims guys like me that got outta college in the mid 90s are fucked.... plan on a mid 60's at best retirement.

Ideally mid to late 60's....As odd as it sounds I like to work and it keeps me out of trouble. I could see myself working longer if it were fun and low impact...work keeps the mind sharp and the body in shape.

Married 20 years two kids divorced last year. Lived off of one pay check for those full 25 years (Wifes) and invested my whole check into stocks, bonds, and some real estate. Lived well within our means and bought only what we needed in life. It takes time and it does not happen overnight but you can really save a lot of $$$ if you are committed.

One week ago while still in my 20s

and right now agree with betall as best thing I ever done

if sitting at a desk filling, drinking stale coffee and filling out paper work is really what makes me the happiest I can always do that at home. And if there is something else that will make me happier I can do that without work getting in the way

This is honest an answer, I'm pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing so I wish to be a working writer. In that case, I hope to never retire. It's a craft that only gets better with age.
