The inevitable has happened: Wade Phillips has been fired. According to CBSDFW.com, Phillips is out. The interim

head coach? Jason Garrett.

After the Cowboys’ no-show at Green Bay Sunday night, most people figured Phillips was done. Thus, the big story here is that Jerry Jones has chosen to hand over the head coaching duties to Garrett.

Jones made Garrett one of the highest-paid assistants in the NFL three years ago because, otherwise, the offensive guru would have taken the Atlanta or Baltimore head coaching jobs. But since then, Garrett’s star has dimmed, especially this season. The Cowboys have one of the most simplistic offensive systems in the NFL. They have not been able to establish an identity, particularly in the run game. And, many of the offensive stars have mastered the art of the mental mistake (false starts, failed blitz pickups, etc.)

Jones is likely using the final eight games this season to determine whether Garrett can be the long-term head coach of this club.

By turning to Garrett, Jones is not only minimizing the immediate upheaval that a midseason coaching shakeup causes, he’s also hedging his bets in case the league’s labor strife leads to a lockout. If there is a lockout, teams won’t be able to practice during the offseason, which makes it extremely difficult to bring in a new coaching staff.

LOL Jerry Jones. You sly bastard.

Jason Garrett promoted here? He's not exactly on fire right now, but that has been the talk for years.

Who can Jones bring in to gut the coaching staff? Who would want to? Can't think of any big name coaches right now...

He should just hire someone to take over and Jones should just stick to promoting the team...Parcells and Jimmy Johnson did a pretty good fucking job until Jones had to let his ego get in the way and fuck up the team. All this talent gone to waste....doesn't matter who the coach is now.

I posted this before I read the article in the 2nd post...

Sounds like Jerry will give him a shot to impress him with the remainder of a wasted season.

Guessing he will beg Cowher to come to Dallas, seems unlikely he would

I see Jason Garrett matching the Cowboys 1-7 start with a 1-7 finish. Will that do it?
@) :):) !<<):nohead: :hahahahah :laughingb :homer:
Wade is the winner in this. He can enjoy the holidays with pay, without all the Cowboys bs. And I mean bs, because that's what the Cowboys organization represents for me. Wade will easily hook up with another NFL team in the future.

I don't like the cowboys or Jerry Jones, but that was painful to watch last night. Wade Phillips looked like he wanted to resign on the spot. Team completely quit on the guy. I have no respect for Jerry, but he had to fire the guy.

my mom has hated the cowboys ever since the way Jerry Jones fired Tom Landry. Landry found out from reporters that he had been fired. Now Jones once again does something shady by saying he would not fire him mid season, only to do so.

For the record Jerry never fired Tom. Jerry came to town to try to buy the Cowboys from Bum Bright and he had Jimmy Johnson in tow. He made it clear from the start that if he were successful that Jimmy was to be his coach.

Once the deal was made it was Bum's GM, Tex Schram's job to tell Tom, however, if he didnt already know he was suffering from accute unawareness.

Just when I make a shit load of cash betting against Dallas (with the over) the last two weeks, the MF Jerry Jones screws it up for me.

Romo out, defense mails it in, offense has to play catch-up and turns the ball over.

Couldn't he wait one more week?

gotta say, he actually might have been TOO PATIENT here.......this coach had "lost" his team many games ago, before the Romo injury......
