Which do you prefer and why. I think MMA is more entertaining and obv there are many ways you can be beat in MMA. I don't think MMA is more barbaric like some may say, Margorito took 400 to the head tonight. I'm just curious why some might prefer boxing.

i haven't watched mma in years, so it might be a different animal these days....BUT.....what i didn't like about it several years ago was it seemed like the vast majority of matches involved 2 dudes rolling around on the mat the whole time.....was just boring

I have always been a huge boxing fan. The fights are fewer so to me its more excitement especially in person, but MMA is very entertaining also. Big fan as well, I did like MMA more back in the day when it was tournament style, less rules and more brawlers. Early UFC and the Pride days

MMA by far. Boxing has one big fight a year and most of the time they are boring (Mayweather fights). MMA has big fights all year long. You get some boring wrestlers from time to time but it's not often. The older folks cling to their boxing but MMA is the evolution of fight sport.

The only fight I would watch is Mayweather/Pacquio - other than that boxing is horrible

The thing is most sports are boring. I can spend hours on baseballreference looking up stats or searching for answers to wilheim's trivia, but I can't watch more than a couple innings before becoming restless. The last few minutes of an NBA game is nothing more than timeout after timeout. Even football with a bet is still mostly background noise. And when it comes to background noise, MMA fighters humping each other on the ground 90% of the time is still better than anything boxing has given us in the past 10 years. At least with MMA we know the best guys are going to be matched up against each other

Your right SD, every card you might get one or two matches where one of the fighters uses the 'lay and pray' method. Most times though it is just a fighter who is a very strong wrestler but hasn't refined the other skills needed to be an all around fighter or finish fights. But then you do get to watch that fighter progress and maybe turn into a great fighter.
At least with each card you get 6 or so fights.
It is just hard to watch boxing sometimes. Pac dominated the fight and it still went to a decision. It is those damn dinosaur mittens they wear.
Watch the next UFC with Penn and Hughes and we will see what you think.

The UFC does do a good job with the matchups and with so many fighters come good storylines.
I also love how Dana tell the fighters when they didn't fight well, or leave it in the ring. After the Marquardt fight Dana said "he is a choker."

I agree with you 100% BAS, just nothing going on in boxing.

But the Kampmann v Shields fight a few weeks back was fixed. The decision was clearly set before the match took place. One of the judges didn't care about making it obvious and went with a 30-27 score for Shields. I've been in the business way too long to cry about bad beats, this was just a fixed match and the more its brought up the better. This type of shit you can't let slide. Around the net on MMA forums, etc., there have been and were rumblings of funny biz regarding this specific fight.

I've heard Dana run his mouth on the Jim Rome show among many other places, I've hit up his facebook a couple times, f'n horsesh*** , one of the many reasons I don't care for boxing anymore, fixed fights.

Shields won that fight. He's boring as shit and doesn't dish out damage but he almost always maintains top position. While there, he's in a dominant position and the other guy isn't doing jack. It's a boring way to win fights but he deserves to win rounds that way. Same thing as if a boxer lands 3 pussy jabs a round but doesn't get hit at all. If the other guy isn't threatening for more than a second or two a round, you just can't give him the round...

Okay SD, you should ckeck out MMA tonight if you get a chance. The card is setup for a great night of fights. Prelims start on spiketv at 9 and PPV should be on on of the usual links at 10. Let me know what you think if you do happen to watch.
