did you tell them you smoke?
If you don't smoke much, I'm guessing that it shouldn't hurt your chances of buying insurance and it shouldn't increase your premiums a lot. If they try to whack you for premiums, maybe you might want to shop around, or maybe you might want to buy a short term policy, quit smoking, and then reapply.
