Ray Guy?

It's a very strong argument, but what happens if you use this argument and then Lechler or someone surpasses him?

The strongest and indisputable criteria is always being the best player among all positions not already in the Hall-of-Fame

Don't know enough of football history to say if that is Guy or not

When Wally Schang retired where did he rank among greatest catchers of all-time?

This answer obviously doesn't apply to the NFL but I would think a similiar situation my keep the best player out of the Hall Of Fame.

I am referring to Pete Rose!

This is a great example. Because let's say you have a young athlete who aspires to be the best at that position like Ray Guy was, and he sees that Ray is not in the HOF. Doesn't that dampers said young athletes spirits a bit.
