and if so, what is your approach? do you handicap prior to game time to decide the odds you want for each play, or do you go by the feel of the game?

I use Matchbook for most of the "live" betting I do but you've got to watch for liquidity. Games like Monday Night Football no problem, but for some hoops games much less action this year than last year. I've done the best in moneyline wagering when a small, home favorite is down early. They seem to come back, so getting lines like +$300 or so, then I "sell back" the bet when the favorite rallies. I had 1 HUGE hit last year for almost $2k on a hoops game where the favorite was down huge, I risked around $50 at like +$4000 just before half time of the game. It was very late so after a few minutes into the 3rd quarter I shut everything down and didn't sell back any of my bet as I just wrote it off that I lost. Home team came back to tie it during regulation and win it in overtime. I logged in the next AM for a wonderful surprise. Other than that I basically try to get an early scalp in and then just trade that scalped profit back and forth, early on taking the loosing team and hoping for them to come back ... wash, rinse, repeat.

The other live betting I tried it out was at the Venetian during the Superbowl. It's like Crack, being able to bet on every play. I started with $200 and ended up around $185 or so, but would have done better had the system not froze up. There was so much action the server needed to be re-booted, and all of the players missed getting action on a ton of plays. I was heavy on NOLA that game on the ML so I was a plus overall on the game, but when the system worked it was fricken amazing, with tons of options available. The live betting at Venetian was so great that I will be back for the superbowl this year, even though I much prerfer the atmosphere at Caesars for the game.

i'm sure their are times when you can lock in a profit no matter what happens.. right ? if the game has big scoring swings .

I used to bet daily, when I was single and living the crazy life. but havent bet much at all over the last 4 years. Family, work, and having a home have consumed all my time.

The only betting I ever really do anymore is Live betting. I dont have the time to handicap games like I used too. If I happen to have some down time, and a game is on, Ill hop on at halftime and bet the 2nd half.

This is strictly due to time constraints, not a planned strategy per say. Only games I bet pregame will be the teams I follow and what I can read about their upcoming opponent. UVA bball/football, and the 49ers. And they all suck, so I bet against them

i prefer the live wagering where the spread changes during the game rather than matchbook where the money lines only change.
You can get middles and sides when the spreads change.

Correct - the game doesn't need to have big scoring swings as you can profit on small ones as well. The best games to hunt for are games where the teams are very evenly matched, ie - NBA home favorite where the line is -2. The ML will open say around -130 or so. Take the dog here and get +125 or so. A few minutes into the game and all of a sudden the dog is up by 4 points, then people start getting nervous. You offer up the favorite with you getting +110 now or so and you may have somebody jump on it. If I start out with $100 on the game, I put another $100 on the original favorite, but now at +$110, so I win $25 if the dog wins or $10 if the favorite wins.

I then start to "trade" only the money that I'm in the green, so I have zero risk, and as the game keeps swinging back and forth, you keep buying the "new dog" and selling the favorite. Evenly match games are great at this.

The other nice profit I've had is whan a bigger favorite (say game goes off home favorite at -9) and the dog comes storming out at the start of the game and takes a nice 10 point lead. All of a sudden you can now get the original favorite at + money ... and sometimes good plus money (I'm talking +300 or +400). You take the home team (which is now a dog) and "sell" the bet (or part of it) back when the favorite rallies to tie up the game.

One thing in the NBA, I've seen a ton of "streaky" games where one team goes on a tear and gets up 5 or 6, then the other team takes over the game momentum and they go up. As long as you keep playing the doggy you'll make a ton of dough.
