Can't blame the guy. This was sort of a rebuilding year. Penn State is a 2nd tier program. The top tier school can field a BCS title contender every single year. For the second tier teams it is every 2nd or 3rd year after the young players mature. Next year should be one of the better years for Penn State, can't blame him for wanting the be their when his work this year will finally pay off.

I respect the man, Penn St has to let him leave on his own terms, but he should retire already

Joe Pa, from where I'm sitting, you're killing your baby

I'm not a Penn St fan, I can't pretend to know how they're thinking

Paterno is a lifer. He will die before he retires.

He would not make it a year into retirement. All he has known since before I was born is Penn St. football. Take that away and he is lost. He knows it.

We have all heard the stories of people who retire and then are dead a short time after. God bless him.
