Go West young man, go West. depends on what you are looking for. Used to sky quite a bit and my wife was a competitive skier and instructor at one time. That was before two hip replacements. Colorado offers the best prices and diversity of slopes. You will get smaller slopes back East and you better know how to cut some great edges on that ice. If you can ski during the week you can miss the crowds and the prices are better. Breckingridge an hour and a half from Denver is great and offers something for everybody. There are about eight mountains within about 100 miles of each other in that area. One of my favorites in the area is Snowmass right outside of Aspen. You have some very easy cruising slopes over two and 1/2 miles long that will satisfy your appetite.Tookthe grandkids last winter to Breck and had a great time. They have schools for the kids and the big kids . If you need any places to stay , just hollar. You can goggle some great ski in and ski out places at all the great places.

ur best bet is Park City, Utah - it's 30 mins from Salt Lake airport and the mountains r as good as anywhere in the world - Vermont is ok but sucks on comparison to CO, UT, WY or CA

You usually get a lot of snow in Utah also. Deer Valley is a great spot right up the road. Can be a little more expensive but worth the expense if you want . They have specials from time to time

This is an easy one, Colorado. I would do Vail if I were you, very nice (huge area) great night life and good for family. There are soooooo many slopes; it's almost never over crowded.. It's just a beautiful place. As buddy mentioned, there are many to pick from in CO.

Come up to Canada and check out Whistler Blackcomb. Wolf Creek in Colorado is amazing but probably wouldn't go with family.

Park City, Utah; Steamboat Springs, Colorado is also good I've heard.

North Lake Tahoe.

There are about a dozen ski resorts with lift tickets anywhere from $25 - $80 day (vs. Colorado's $80-100/day). North Tahoe has some smaller resorts (Boreal, Tahoe Donner, Donner Ski Ranch, Mt. Rose, Diamond Peak, Sugar Bowl, Soda Springs, Homewood and a few others) that are not as packed as the Colorado resorts....and don't price gouge, especially for weekday lift tickets. Hell, kids tickets at Squaw Valley are like $10 or somewhere in that ballpark.

Also, you can stay right on the mountain...or stay in town (a short drive to the resorts)....for anywhere from $50/night to as much as you want to pay.

There are also a handful of small casinos on the north shore (Nevada side) that are fun.....

This is where you want to go imo.

Especially if you have youngins learning to ski.

Not if you are an experienced skier as will bore the hell out of you.

And having young kids you can stay at Circus Circus in Reno holding your nose of course but between both Donner and Circus Circus you will have plenty money left to gamble.

Tahoe is great if you want to gamble. Breckenridge is awesome but I hate being 10,000 feet above sea level and it is pricey. Apart from Tahoe I would heavily recommend Utah. The snow is great, it is less crowded and cheaper. Last time I went to Utah I skiied Solitude and Brighton.

DaughterBar has lived in The Boat for past two full seasons and it seems unlikely I'll pry her and her mate out of their anytime soon.

We visited in May (non-ski season) and can certainly recommend those hot springs.

Mt. Bachelor was always my favorite place to ski in Eastern Oregon near Bend, Oregon. Always real easy to get a rental home as there are several Real Estate Companies in the area who cater to skiers.
I like Mt Bachelor ahead of Mt Hood resorts because the snow is powder while often the warmer Mt Hood area is wetter snow and far slower skiing.
