What's not mentioned in the article (and video) is that the Padres GM and assistant GM are both former assistants to Theo Epstein. There's obviously a relationship there.

Assuming deal goes thru - Gonzo and Sox have to work out an extension - Sox apparently are only giving up prospects. Sox have been after this guy for a couple of years. Really does seem like a great pick up for them at a reasonable price.
Right now they only have Gonzalez locked up for one year, so it could happen
