2007 Tim Tebow

13 games
4,181 total yards
23 rushing TDs
32 passing TDs

2010 Cameron Newton

13 games
3,998 total yards
20 rushing TDs
28 passing TDs

How quickly are we to forget the dominance of Tim Tebow (in arguably a less wide-open offensive scheme as Malzahn's current one).

Gene Chizik: "He is the best football player I have ever seen." What a moron.

In 50 years, there will be a trivia question "Who was the 2010 National Champions Auburn Tigers head coach?"

Nobody will know.

Classic line. I think it will onky take 5 years for everyone to forget though. Auburn doesn't win 10+ games in a season in the next 5 years. SEC West is getting too good, and I have yet to be impressed with anything Chizik has done as a coach. Let us not forget last year's Outback Bowl.

Saban went 7-5 his first year at Bama and lost to La Monroe. Sure seems like the best coaches (Tressel, Saban, Meyer, Stoops) have won titles in their first few years. It's Chizik's turn this year.

With the Auburn defense, this is a 7-5 team this year w/o Newton playing QB. They don't beat LSU, Bama, Ark, or Miss St. Probably lose to So Carolina earlier in the year as well as Clemson. Wait a minute, that 6-6.

SD, Saban went 7-6 his first year (6-6 regular season)....then had two undefeated regular seasons.

The jury is still out on Chizik...but why the hate? He seems like a genuinely good coach and has done a great job with this bunch. He took an Auburn team on the decline in Tuberville's last few years...that had a losing record and went 8-5 with athletes that weren't capable of running this offense....then landed Cam Newton. Because of the 12 game regular season schedule used now, I can easily see him having a 10 win season in the next 5 years...or more than one. The SEC West is tough....and has surpassed the East (w/ the downward spiral of Tennessee the last few years, especially).

Tebow did it for FOUR years with Class.

Cam Newton stole a laptop....lied to police....cheated in class TWICE....was called before the academic judiciary committee, but transferred in order to avoid that meeting...but the worst thing about Cam Newton is that he ALWAYS puts himself above his teammates.

And Newton only played ONE year.

Comparing Newton to Tim Tebow is fucking incredibly insulting....and a true indication of genetic deficiency.

Chizik does seem like a really good dude, I just don't really see anything that stands out as the foundation for long-term success. He's got a good, but corky offensive coordinator who I think will either leave or people will figure out. He has a once-in-a-lifetime QB that even with great recruiting isn't replaceable. They play mediocre defense, and I don't see him as a guy who is going to "coach-up" a defense. It just strikes me as a "flash-in-the-pan" kind of year. I could be wrong, but I think its going to be really hard for Auburn to go 10-3 at some point the next 5 years.

They have to play Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Arkansas every year and I think it is hard to go 3-1 against those teams every year. And if you go 2-2 (which is not bad) Auburn would have to go 8-1 in the rest of their games and a bowl game to win 10. Just my opinion.

Chizik's specialty is defense....and the Auburn defense is widely considered the weak link on that team

Your dumb to think CHizik isn't a good coach....they are 12 - 0! And this is coming from an Iowa State fan (Chizik dropped ISU and ran to Auburn with a 2-10 record here).

You have to remember that Chizik recruited Newton....it is not like he was already at Auburn when he got there.

Also, Chizik is the man that hired Gus Malzahn...right?

In order to be a good coach in DIV. 1 you must surround yourself with high quality coaches & players. Chizik has done that. IMO, that makes him a good coach.

What say you?

Dont let your hatred or homerism get the best of you....be true to reality and give the man his props.

I'm far from a homer dude. I'm just giving you my personal opinion based on what I see. I don't think Chizik is a bad coach, but I don't think he's an elite coach either.

First, I think winning 10 games in a season is tough to do in any confrence. Second, I think it is tougher when you are in the SEC West. Third, replacing an amazing QB is tough to do (Ask Urban). Fourth, replacing a really good coordinator is tough to do.

I could be wrong, Newton could come back for a senior year (because every year is a contract year for Cam, and he could probably negotiate a really good deal with Auburn) and Malzahn might not leave and they could go undefeated again. But IMO, if they both leave, I don't think Chizik will be able to replace them very easily because if good QBs and O-Coordinators were that common, everyone would have one. When I watch Auburn, I don't see elite talent all over the field like I see when I watch some other teams.

Also, it still wouldn't shock me if something came of this Cam Newton scandal. And if that happens, winning 10 games becomes very tough.

Some good points. I don't really have a ton against Chizik - I actually kinda feel sorry for the guy. I think he was hired as a "yes" man, rather than a football program director.

His media and post-game comments sometimes strike me as unprofessional. I don't think he's very polished in dealing with the media. And if you were to ask Auburn fans, which would they rather have for 2011: Chizik or Malzahn? I'd bet you'd get 90% the OC.

I will say this: I respect him 10 times more than Tommy Tuberville. That guy was arrogant because he beat Mike Shula and won 9-10 games/year? Now he was a funny one!

I'll set the 2011 Auburn Tigers win total at 8.5. Anybody want the over???

And what does this have to do with football? Sure he has character issues but everyone cant be Jesus Christ. Let the kid be a kid and learn from his mistakes. We all cant be born without sin like Tebow. Cam Newton is a BETTER football player than Tim Tebow and if Cam was in UF's offense his numbers would be greater than Tebow who had 1...count it 1 (MAYBE 2) runs over 40 yards in his career. Stop It!

Cam Newton is a better football player than Tebow. Newton can throw better which ultimately makes him a better QB because we all know how well he can run. Now, in terms of a leader/competitor I will take Tebow.

With all of that said I will take Newton and Malzahn over Tebow and Meyer. Malzahn being the better offensive mind.

If you had to start a College Program around one of these guys WITHOUT either Malzahn or Meyer I am taking Tebow. Tebow is someone you want leading your team into battle because his teammates around him not only like him, but they know how hard he works and what a great person he is. PERIOD.

Both are great!

VY >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

lol

any qb that can get mack brown a national title is the most awesomest evar

auburn will lose to oregon so the point will be moot.

tebow over newton. not by much but better.
newton appears to be more athletic and both are great team leaders but i give tebow the edge.

what i love about newton is that ESPN didnt completely suck him off like they did ad nauseum with TT.....

tebow's final year was completely brutal...every week we had a 10 minute spotlight on something Tebow...

You're a bunch of whiners and haters

Newton is a better player/athlete than Tebow. He's bigger, faster, and a better passer. He's a winner and he's done it with less talent around him.

Im so sick of hearing AU would be 6-6 or whatever without Newton. Well, the Colts would still blow without Manning and the Pats wouldn't be worth a shit without Brady either. That is such a stupid argument and a false one. If they could go 8-5 last year with Chris Todd at QB, no depth on defense and their first year in the system, they could easily match that total with the BEST OFFENSIVE LINE in the country, the #2 rush defense in the SEC, and a better schedule.

Why you gonna hate on Chizik, he has done nothing wrong. He has shown nothing but class, he hired an outstanding staff, he worked his ass off recruiting against the rest of the juggernaut coaches in the SEC. He's done all this with Nick Saban having a 2 year head start in the same state.

The staff has made adjustments in every game and outcoached everybody they played against. This isnt' the MWC or the MAC, this is the SEC with the best coaching staffs in the country.

Most importantly I have NEVER seen a team fight and claw and never give up like this team. Coming from behind in 8 of 12 games??? Coming from behind 24-0 at Bama??? Name me one team.

Oh BTW You can all suck on the SEC and the state of Alabama's cocks. back to back Heismans, back to back Lombardi or Outland, and possible back to back National Champs. So quit hating and show some respect where it's due.

Tebow was perhaps the best college leader/winner in history. Was he a better player/qb than Newton? I don't think so. Not nearly as explosive or as accurate a passer. Put guys like Percy Harvin on the same side of the ball with Newton and they might hang a 70-spot every week. As good as TT was, there were other players that had to be accounted for. Not so much with Auburn.

Nobody will know.

Stats are skewed b/c Meyer is a douchebag and ran up the score in every game because he could. Auburn does not. Also, once inside the 5 yard line, Tebow was their running back, quarterback, point guard, catcher, everything.

Can you tell me who the starting RB was for that 2007 team? I had to look it up. And I've never heard the name in my life. Percy Harvin was #2 on the team in rushing TDs with 6 and he's a WR. Who the hell is Kestahn Moore??? He was 3rd in rushing TDs with 6 as well.

So UF 2007 Passing/Rushing TDs:
Tebow 55
Everyone else on 1st String (excludes cam newton cleanup duty) 12

Auburn 2010 Passing/Rushing TDs:
Newton 48
McCaleb 9
Dyer 5
Fannin 5

Plenty more TDs could have been Newton's if we didn't have RBs to give the ball to like UF was lacking in 2007.
