As a huge Gators fan, I'm happy for the two NC's & SEC titles. However, if he isn't going to coach (like this year)...move on. I'm glad he's stepping down before the program falls even farther. Hell, I think we could have gotten a group of guys off this board and coached them to a 7-5 season w/ all the talent they have in Gainesville....and score more than 7 points vs. FSU and South Carolina (both teams gave up over 100 points combined last Saturday!).
He was totally aloof this year. He didn't even know that Dan McCarney had been offered the head coaching job at North Texas (he was asked by a reporter and stated he didn't know anything about it). He continued to back his OC, who was obviously in way over his head.
I don't want to see Mullen or Strong return to Gainesville. There are several names circulating. Kerwin Bell will get strong consideration. I doubt they hire a coordinator w/ out proven head coaching experience. If they can keep together the current 17 players they have committed (plus a few more), the next coach will be in good shape. The QB position at DE position are the only spots at UF that are questionable right now. A good coach can win 9-10 games next year...although it will be a brutal schedule w/ Alabama, LSU, Auburn & UGA in consecutive games (plus UT early, South Carolina & FSU late - don't tell me UF has a "weak OOC" schedule. Who gives a shit when you play THAT!?).
Anyhow, I hope he has a happy life. He'll always be a Gator....but after what happened this season, it was definitely time for him to move on.
