Packers lose Aaron Rodgers to concussion
By Kevin Seifert
Uh oh. Remember when we discussed Aaron Rodgers' success as a runner this season? It just got him knocked out of the Green Bay Packers' game at Ford Field.
Rodgers took a hard shot from Detroit Lions linebacker Landon Johnson at the end of an 18-yard run in the second quarter. Rodgers' helmet bounced off the turf, and the Packers have announced he suffered a concussion -- his second of the season. Rodgers won't return, meaning Matt Flynn will quarterback the Packers the rest of the way.
The Packers are now in for a dogfight. They hadn't scored with Rodgers in the game, and now they'll need Flynn to succeed in what will be the first extended playing time of his NFL career.
For the most part this season, Rodgers has been careful with his scrambling. Sunday, he was trying to make a play and light a fire under an offense that went scoreless in the first half. He could have taken a slide at the end but instead went for extra yardage. On this occasion, it backfired.
