Professor Larry: Can Peyton Manning catch Brett Favre?

It will take a while-like half a decade-for the Colts quarterback to catch up to the Vikings quarterback in consecutive games started.

Only his slightly off center stocking cap gave a hint of a normal night.
His long sleeve black shirt and sweatpants only reminded that this was a once in a lifetime moment.
Once in Brett Favre's lifetime more specifically.
A shoulder sprain was finally too much for the NFL's resident ironman to take, and even an extra day off because of a bad storm and an even worse roof on the Metrodome wasn't enough to get him healthy.
For the first time in 297 games-for the first time since 1992-Favre was a scratch and not in the starting lineup for a team during a regular season NFL game. The stretch of consecutive games is by far an NFL record for quarterbacks-but another quarterback is continuing his long climb.
Peyton Manning is currently at 205 consecutive games played for the Colts-and has yet to miss a game in his career. In fact, he has only been knocked out of one play in one game during his 13-year run as the team's signal caller.
But in order to catch Favre, Manning will have to keep that going for another half-a-decade. The quarterback would not only have to finish this season, but then complete five more seasons through 2015 to get near the record.
Then in 2016, he would have to start the first ten games to pass Favre with his 298th consecutive game at quarterback.
It could come a little sooner, though, thanks to the National Football League.
Discussions continue to have the season expanded to 18 games as early as the 2011 season, and if that's the case, Manning would have a chance to break the record on the final week of the 2015 season.
Playoff games are not often factored into this comparison, but if they were, it would leave Manning with a little more catching up to do. Favre has played in six more playoff games than Manning during the streak (24-18), so the Colts quarterback would have to make up 98 games instead of 92 with just regular season.

i don't think peyton will be playing long enough to even worry about a meaningless streak such as this one. peyton seem's smart enough to get out while his health is still good and he can still walk. very dangerous sport w not much left to offer him. he has more than enough money and can still continue t make a shitload as a coach, announcer, or whatever else he decides to do. his name alone now will forever bring him home alot of money w wheatever he decides to do. espically if there is no season next yr....
