I know that a new Colt 45 would run you more than double the US price... so definitely around $2000 at a gun store. But the premium is for the gun already being registered in an S.A. -- right now it's the only way for foreigners without residence to own a firearm in Costa Rica. Thanks to Laura "won't anyone think of the children?" Chinchilla, the requirements for a foreigner to register a gun, even under a corporation, are now the same as getting a carry permit (thus making simple registration on its own fairly pointless).
For example I own a Beretta in a numbered corporation prior to the policy change and there's absolutely no way I could buy another at the store because I couldn't get it registered until I get residence or citizenship.
