COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State is investigating allegations that several football players traded autographs for tattoos, according to multiple reports.
WBNS-TV and The Columbus Dispatch, both citing unidentified sources, reported on their websites Wednesday night that the school was looking into the possible NCAA violations just two weeks before the Buckeyes face Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 4.

Quarterback Terrelle Pryor, not mentioned in either report, quickly responded on Twitter.

"I paid for my tattoos. GoBucks" he posted.

The Associated Press left telephone, text and e-mail messages seeking comment from coach Jim Tressel, athletic director Gene Smith, the school's compliance director and other university officials.

Asked by the AP to respond to the allegations, Ohio State associate athletic director Dan Wallenberg said in an e-mail, "No information to share."
Team spokeswoman Shelly Poe said after Tuesday's practice that each player was eligible for the bowl. She said she was unaware of any NCAA investigation.
The Buckeyes have several days off before reporting back to campus on Sunday night. They practice Monday and Tuesday before flying to New Orleans for the BCS bowl game on Dec. 29.

I don't see the problem with this. It's just ink! They traded ink. Ink for the auto, ink for the tat. Aditionally; People get free tats all the time. IT's not a big deal!

Waste of money and time to investigate this.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP)—Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor and four other Buckeyes must sit out the first five games of the 2011 season for accepting improper benefits. All can still play in the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas.

The NCAA suspensions were announced Thursday, shortly before Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith and coach Jim Tressel were to meet with reporters to discuss the university’s investigation of players trading autographs for tattoos.

Pryor, running back Daniel Herron, wide receiver DeVier Posey, offensive lineman Mike Adams and defensive end Solomon Thomas also must repay between $1,000 to $2,500 to charity.

At what position, surely it wont be QB

pryor will put on some weight and be like Antonio gates in the nfl. Not saying on that level, but the speed and size. he has hands. the benefits are mostly selling player awards and championship rings (along with tattoo's from some).

pryor's high school coach was interviewed and said in pryor's case his mother was hard up for money and pryor sold the awards trying to help her out. Its a catch 22, pryor coming back for his senior season helps ohio state out alot, but also costs pryor a ton of money, as he would be a 2-3 round pick

the players should announce that they are refusing to (play) pay in the bowl game.

citing that they think it's immoral for ESPN and OSU to force them to play in this bowl game and then suspending them after the fact.

what's really low is making this kids pay back the money.

they should donate the money to a US Senator that promises to do everything possible to abolish the BCS system and implement a playoff system.

I do not understand - why can't an NCAA football player sell things that belong to them?

Ridiculous.

Ohio State should refuse to play in the Sugar Bowl or just show up and let Arkansas score on every play.

In any case, all 5 will probably now leave school for the NFL - not saying they make it but doubt they come back.

Worst thing the NCAA can do - basically guarantees 3/5 go bust. Kids don't sell championship rings for $1000 cause they are rich and living the life. Hell I would have bought all the merchandises for the prices they took.... Obviously these kids are broke and were trying to get some dollars.

Selling your personal possessions you gained legally = 5 games suspensions
Selling yourself in pay for play = accolades and not even a slap on the wrist

All i can say is WOW

Don't exactly know why they aren't suspended for the Sugar Bowl.

Exactly. No one knows.

Someone tell the OSU president that this doesn't happen at Boise or TCU.

If I were the five guys (and tressel), I'd tell the NCAA lift the suspensions or we don't play in the Sugar Bowl.

does anyone know when they sold this stuff? from what i've gathered is that it happened about 2 years ago and i'm wondering why this is just now coming out.

It was several years ago. Evidently it is coming out now because the IRS or Feds investigated the tattoo/Memorabilia shop for things completely unrelated.
