Charles Oakley said around 80% routinely when he played. I'd say around that smoke recreationally, meaning once-twice a week or 6-7 times a month. Quite a few, like Michael Beasley, have been known to play high all the time.

Does it really matter though? Cannabis is relatively harmless if you don't do it habitually. And i'm not a smoker myself, just someone who knows the truth.

i think anything above 50% is a fairly high estimate. i mean, if you are asking who has smoked before, then sure, maybe a good 60%, but habitual users... i doubt that number is higher than 20% max.

i do know that josh howard used to buy pounds and pounds while he was in dallas...

correct....the NBAPA has so far not permitted urine tests for cannabis to be included in their CBA with the owners

Lets make it Black and White. NBA is probably at least 80% Black. I bet 90% of Black NBA players smoke weed ( and nothing wrong with weed either), a lot of the White boys probably smoke it too !

If THC ( stays around for months) isn't even tested for then what about cocaine and other stuff ? Does the NBA test for anything at all ?

Maybe they test for steroids ?

I bet these guys smoke joints at halftime. I would if I was them ! I don't think it really helps long-term but I could see a pot-buzz perhaps putting you into a buzzed zone where the basketball shots just start falling nicely like crazy.

unofficially, this was the nba's stance on weed in 2009. i didn't want to spend that much time on this.

NBA players are required to undergo four random tests every season between Oct. 1 and June 30. But a player who tests positive for marijuana is not subjected to his first five-game suspension -- or even public knowledge he has failed a drug test -- until his third failed test.

every pot smoker should fail that test.

I'm almost certain that in fact, the charge is "violation of the league's substance abuse policy" and not specific to cannabis.
