Wow! As a Gator fan, the Ohio State job was the only job that I thought Meyer would leave UF for....

Gravy, I seriously doubt he coaches again. He has some serious medical issues that he's been told by his doctors could lead to a heart attack. But, if he didn't have the cardiac/medical issues, I'd imagine he'd jump at that job. He had said that Notre Dame was (in the past) his "dream job". But, never considered it in 2004 when he took the UF job (and ND hired Wies)....then could have taken it last year. So, I always figured Ohio State was the only job he'd take (he coached there as a grad assistant, is from Ohio, and he and his wife carry a bucknut in their pockets for good luck)......

With all that said, I'd still be surprised if Tressel resigned/retired. He has some idiots on this team, but I think OSU does as good as any bigtime program in trying to stay within NCAA compliance. They have something like 30 compliance officers. There's only so much the school can do. If these kids make bad decisions after they've been educated on the subject that is on the player...not the school.

Fishhead,I talked to somebody for over an hour that i know who is a Ohio State donor we will leave it at that and he told me that this might be the nail in the coffin for Tressel as he is getting tired of all the BS going on with the program and this Prior kid selling off his stuff really got Tressel pissed off from what I was told as you don't sell of your gold pants period as Tressel is big on Tradition at Ohio State.Dont be shocked when you here about money coming out when the NCAA gets going with this.I would say right now that it is 70/30 that he is gone after the Sugar Bowl and heard that Bowl prep isnt going great for them from what I was told as this has the team divided right now. Also lets put the rumors of Tressel going to the NFL as he has no interest unless he gets go gobs of cash but I don't see it.

Also I heard that not in any order but Gruden-Ferentz-Saban-Harbaugh are on the list of coaches that they want to talk to as Coach CB said that Meyer isn't coaching anytime soon but never say never.

My biggest question is why the hell does your star QB need $2000? That didn't used to happen in Columbus.

Sounds like a jealous Hawkeye to me. I'd like to know who your friend is. Tressel does nothing different than any other coach. He is nothing but a class act. I have not heard anyone that knows him say anything different.

You notice where I put Harbaugh on the list and I know that is likely not to happen hiring a Michigan man but i will tell that he will get interviewed if Tressel leaves.I also questioned the Ferentz name as It seems like a far fetch move IMO and I dont like him we will see but l will throw a name out there in Mike Belotti.

It's been the ultimate trump card, tucked away in the back pocket of Ohio State fans and ready to use in case of emergencies -- like when defending their team from being lumped in with other NCAA miscreants.
"Our coach does things the right way," Buckeye fans have extolled.
The statement has carried enough finality to end arguments, and it's tough to argue that reality hasn't followed that perception of Jim Tressel
Until Tuesday.
Tressel looked contrite, even remorseful, as he publicly addressed allegations he ignored potential NCAA violations by a handful of his players in April 2010.
His case was compelling: Tressel didn't inform anyone at Ohio State that he knew two of his players were part of a federal drug trafficking investigation because of a request for confidentiality. The investigation subsequently revealed the sale of Ohio State memorabilia by the athletes -- an NCAA violation.
Confidentiality and safety. They were the cornerstones of Tressel's defense Tuesday. In hindsight, Tressel said he should have immediately sought advice from the university's top legal counsel.
And he's right. It's hard to think in the world of college football, where self-preservation among coaches is second only to winning, Tressel didn't sprint to the university's Office of Legal Affairs, e-mails in hand.
But he kept the news to himself.
Although Tressel fans in the past might have been quick to praise the coach for keeping tight-lipped on the situation, there was unfamiliar uncertainty Tuesday. It tends to happen when the words "major violation" are thrown around during a mea culpa press conference.
In its self report to the NCAA, Ohio State recommended Tressel serve a two-game suspension and pay a $250,000 fine. Whether or not the NCAA imposes more remains to be seen.
But what stings today is a realization that will long outlive whatever sanctions the NCAA levies -- that Ohio State is a step closer to becoming just another big-time -- wink, wink -- college football program.
No longer beyond reproach, the Buckeyes,
to many, won't be any different than USC,
North Carolina, Tennessee or, dare I say, M
ichigan. They're just the latest to either
get caught breaking the rules or, worse, to
get caught covering it up.

Tressel hasn't undone 10 years of work in
the past 11 months. He simply fell prey to
his own interpretation of what was right.

It just wasn't the "right" Ohio State fans
have come to love and expect from him.

I am not sure which offense is more harmless to the actual on the field/court actions of their team. Tressel not disclosing this information pubically or even to the school administration privately that there were two student athletes being investigated by Federal Authorities as the last time I looked you were innocent until prven guilty in The US. Or BYU suspending their starting center Brandon Davies for the remainder of the season for having Sex with his girl friend. I don't know what to make of players selling team memorabilia.

All 7, including the BYU guys should be playing and Tressel should be coaching. The NCAA is a fucking joke.

Interesting that Tressel now feels his penalty must match his players. I wonder what he thinks his penalty should be if the NCAA goes the Dez Bryant route and permanetly suspends the OSU players.
