I'm sure some of you have the answer to this.....

When I download movies, and burn them to dvd, they don't play on hardly any dvd players.

Is the problem with the program I'm using, the dvds, or something else?

Thanks fellas.....

I'd say it's the file type. For example, a lot of movies I download are like a .mkv file or some crap and only VLC media player will play them. Not a DVD, not quicktime, not Windows Media Player.

For files you download and want to burn, make sure it is a .AVI file.

what software are you using to burn movies to dvd?

Freemake is a great software for converting any type of file to a dvd, avi, youtube even does Bluray...etc.......It's free
I know sometimes I download a movie and try to use windows dvd maker and it will not recognize certain file types...espcially mpg-4 so I use Freemake to convert directly from mpg-4 to dvd or if you want to use another type of burner then just use Freemake to convert the file to avi.

If you burn a file to a dvd as DATA this will not play on most dvd players
make sure you are actually convertin the files to dvd format.

http://www.freemake.com/

Download, install, choose file to conert and then convert to dvd

Right click on the files you are hoving problems with
click "media info" and it will tell you what type of file you have.

I got freemake from Cnet.com. Very good reviews from editors and users. Works as good as the pay software like Nero...etc. just as fast also

There are tabs at the top of this program: Video - Audio - Dvd - Photo - Past URL

And tabs at the bottom: to avi - to dvd - to blue ray - etc. ( I assume to burn)

I opened/added the file through the VIDEO tab up top.

Now, I click CONVERT at the very top.

When I select TO DVD, will this convert the file as it burns it?

Thanks again

Thanks Again

Yup. We need to know the file extension of the failed DVD burns...
