...For either trading or sports betting?

I think I'm going to put something together, for all-purpose use, but also for betting purposes. With a newer processor, and multiple graphics cards, I could have a bunch of games streaming plus dedicated monitors for SportsOptions, other stats-related sites, and of course a monitor dedicated for theRX.

Doesn't have to be crazy, like this...

Although, I can wish, can't I?

But maybe something along these lines (without all the nerdy stuff on the screens):

If anyone has something like this going, I'd love to hear how you have it setup, and how it increases your productivity?

Dual monitors honestly is going to be more than enough for most people. And is VERY affordable now that you don't even have to get a new graphics card or anything.

Newegg usually has amazing prices for monitors. Go get two, ta da.

Yea, the actual hardware side is not a mystery to me at all - I'm actually thinking of building an i5 or i7 based hackintosh, because the idea of multiple monitors /w hot corners and virtual desktops seems like it'd be a dream... But I'm more interested in how people use their setups, how many screens are dedicated to one particular app or site? How many are multi-purpose? etc...

Well, I do plan on putting one together within the next month, as I'd like to start treating this sports betting thing as more than something I do when I've drunk too much, or a way to pass time on Sunday mornings before the games kick/tip off... So I'll report back for sure.

If people do use this technology though, I would love to hear about how you think it's helped you.

You don't dedicate each monitor to something. It's more like having the real estate available tod o more shit.

The best thing though is for scalping or comparing prices. Odds on one side / news, books on the other, or if scalping, book1 on one side and book 2 on the other. It's so hard to go back from 2 monitors to 1.

if you had 5, or 10, are there things important enough to have a dedicated space?

It seems like that'd be ideal, I know traders have monitors dedicated for sole purposes.. They may have a few windows open, but those windows stay put on the given screen.

The guys I work with have dual monitors. I've tried it but got confused as to what went where. At work I work with 7 different applications at one time. At home I mostly use Firefox so I just click on the tabs to go from view to view on my laptop.

Do multiple monitors really help if you only have 2 or 3 screens to look at? Maybe I'll try it since I have a VGA cable going from my laptop to my 52" LCD TV. The only problem with that is that my TV is so bright I would have to change the brightness every time I switched from computer to TV.

PRobably one of the more impressive examples of multiple monitors is pro online poker players. Playing multiple hands on multiple monitors.

I think the ideal set up is:

3-6 plasma TVs for watching live games and betting 2Hs (I have 3 46, 46, and 63, If I didn't live in NYC and had more space I'd have 6. Rarely are there more than 6 games on of meaning).
3-4 laptops or monitors in the same room. That's my prob is that my 2 monitors are in another room so rarely get used. I just use the 2 laptops... If I had 4, 1 for Sportsoptions, 1 for betting, 1 for gamecast screens and stats, 1 for watching games on channelsurfing or whatever when not on tv. By next year's football I'll have 4 laptops. As of now, sportsoptions gets one and the other shares..
