This year I have taken to the habit of turning the sound down when a commercial comes on and then turn to my laptop to live my real life. It's an instant reaction now so I don't even have to think about it and the effort is well worth it.

Have been muting television ads for probably as long as I've had a mute button.

It makes for some wierdness when I visit someone else's home and the ads seem to just BLAST off their televisions.

Also have found it a bit more difficult to watch sports at local sports bars because they have the big sound systems to fill the restaurant space and when ads come on, they're loud as shit.

My grandparents used to mute the commercials. It annoyed the hell out of me.
