REPORT: Rodriguez Fired
MetroNews Sports
Ann Arbor, Michigan

After a not-too-memorable stint with the Michigan Wolverines, MyFoxDetroit.com is reporting former Mountaineer head coach Rich Rodriguez is fired. Rodriguez went 15-22 overall and 6-18 in the Big Ten in three seasons. This is the only media with reports of his firing.

Id rather have Bud Foster, but not sure hes available

even after Monday night? :)

I'll take Rich Rod, along with 6 or 7 other names being tossed around

any Husky fan distraught over Randy leaving? I'm not. I appreciate what he's done during the transition period, but I just don't see him as some stud. Having said that, maybe I wish he stayed 55/45, but I'm not concerned at all that he left.

Fucker's name was mentioned for every opening that came up since 2007, that doesn't happen by accident. And that doesn't help recruiting either.

I'd rather have Leach, but that ain't happening either.
We aren't going to do better than Rod, so let's lock that up for say 3-4 years.

I heard RichRod to Pitt also on a few other boards. Would be a good fit in the Big LEast.

Curious why Bud Foster never took off for a head coaching job...or a bigger DC job. Beamer must have something on him! Seriously, I know for a fact Spurrier offered him to Florida in the 90's...so I'm sure he's been offered other jobs...which certainly would have led to a head coaching gig somewhere. W/ the pay some Coordinator's are making these days I can't imagine Va Tech is paying him in that rance (what Tennessee, Texas and a few other programs are paying their OCs/DCs). A 5 year contract at a decent D1 school would be at least $1.5 mil/year...he could pocket some cash...and if he fails, he's set financially....

Word broke today from several sources that Rich Rodriguez had been fired from his job as the Michigan football coach. That wasn't much of a surprise, considering the turmoil of his entire three-year tenure in Ann Arbor and the egg his team laid in the Gator Bowl, but any time a coach gets canned from such a high-profile school it's a bit of a shock to the system. After the multiple reports came out that Rodriguez was through, a slightly different story started coming out: that Rodriguez was about to be fired and that a decision was already in place, but his final meeting with AD David Brandon was still ongoing. It seemed a little cruel that the meeting would be taking place hours after the firing decision was made -- couldn't Rodriguez save everybody some time by just getting on Twitter, finding out the bad news, and walking out once and for all? -- but on the meeting went all the same.
Now, word from TheWolverine.com (the Michigan affiliate on the Rivals.com network) is that Rodriguez still isn't fired, won't be fired today, and the player meeting scheduled for the team to find out about Rodriguez's future with the program has been delayed until tomorrow afternoon.
Of course, this doesn't mean Rodriguez's job is safe yet. He could be fired tomorrow, and the only problem fans could have with the decision is that it took one day longer than it had to. In the grand scheme of things, that probably won't mean a whole lot at all. For whatever reason, be it a need for more information or a desire to control the message, Brandon's not pulling the proverbial trigger yet. One thing's for sure: it's going to be a tense night in Ann Arbor.

West Virginia native Rich Rodriguez tenure at Michigan may finally be over, according to two news outlets in Detroit. Both The Detroit Free Press and Fox 2 TV are reporting that University of Michigan athletic director David Brandon fired Rodriguez Tuesday afternoon in a brief meeting.

However, Brandon called the reports "media speculation" and said a "final decision" has not been made.

Update: Rodriguez Fired

ESPN is reporting that Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez has been
fired and Athletic Director David Brandon is going to talk about the state program at 12:30 p.m. The press conference with Brandon can be watched at www.MGoBlue.com.

Multiple media outlets reported yesterday that Rodriguez was fired by Michigan, but the University released a statement in the late afternoon saying that Brandon has not made a decision about Rodriguez's future. Brandon called the reports "media speculation" and said a "final decision" has not been made.

A meeting with the players was scheduled for 7 p.m. last night, but that was later pushed back to 4 p.m. today.
