so, pretty sure Piano Man is my absolute favorite song ever... it just so universal - makes me wish i was born 2 or 3 decades earlier... in a "simpler time."

what's your favorite track ever? why?

i like that too...not trying to hijack....

on a side note and not wanting/needing to start a new thread...singer gerry rafferty died....baker street is just a simply incredible song(even david lee roth covered)...did not know about "stuck in the middle with you" which was also a good song...

The singer-songwriter Gerry Rafferty, whose songs such as Stuck in the Middle with You, Baker Street and Get it Right Next Time soundtracked the 1970s, has died aged 63 after a long illness.
His family said he died at home peacefully with his daughter Martha this morning.
The Scot was born in Paisley, near Glasgow, played with Billy Connolly's folk outfit the Humblebums, and co-founded the soft-rock group Stealer's Wheel, before enjoying a successful solo career. Baker Street, released in 1978, was still netting him £80,000 a year more than 30 years later.
Rafferty endured battles with the music industry – once taking three years to disentangle contracts – and a problem with alcohol. When he was a child his mother would drag him round the streets of Glasgow, rather than risk his suffering violence at the hands of his Irish-born father, who would often come home drunk.
Although sure of his own abilities, Rafferty was fearful of working with stars such as Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney. On occasion his drinking would lead him to smashing cases of expensive wine.
He divorced from his wife Carla – who he met at a dancehall when she was 15 and married five years later – in 1990. She said: "There was no hope. I would never have left him if there'd been a glimmer of a chance of him recovering."
Rafferty, having once owned a Kent farm and a home in Hampstead, moved to California to be near Martha, before moving to Ireland in 2008 and later Dorset.
In recent years, he was better known for alcohol-fuelled incidents, apparent disappearances and poor health than for his music. His last album, Another World, was released in 2000.

man you can't hijack this thread... that's the point - i am looking for other songs that have stuck /w people for a longass time, for whatever reason. I'm a young dude, not quite 30 yet (but soon) - but Piano Man hits me hard, harder than the punk stuff listen to, or the alice in chains song i mentioned up there... i just think Piano Man is so good, it brings me back to a place i've never been but can only hope to be.

post songs ppl!

Alice in Chains unplugged is just amazing. In college I used to go to sleep to that album every night. It just seems so emotional and real. Here is another good tune for you...:toast:

You Picked my All Time Favorite Singer... EVER !

Probably has been to more Billy Joel Concerts in my life time , then All other Concerts put Together.......And believe ME ! I have been to a Ton !

Billy being a long island Boy.......have even seen him around when he lived in Bayville .... every once in a while you will find him at Bayville Pizza... just hanging out and talking like one of the guys.

His Music is some of the best Written.... and he does his on Writing .....and it's all about His Life...and the People around him.

That's what makes his music DEEP !
Not sure if many feel this way, but people here on Long Island...or New York in General do.

I guess if you know the Back round of the Artist, you could understand the Music better. Or what the Song means.

Say Goodbye to Hollywood was when he Moved out West to Cali, and New York State of Mind was when he Moved back to New York.

Just the way you are, was written about his First Wife Elizabeth ! ( She was a Bitch )

A lot of people thought that Uptown Girl was made for Christie brinkley ...but it wasn't.

A couple of Joel songs you might like is, Captain Jack and Vienna

Vienna is about his dad

Pearl Jam had a big influence on me...saw them in concert in what i believe was their only appearance in Maine. Rodman(when his popularity was at its highest) came out on stage and picked up Vedder onto his shoulders during Alive. Alive was a song that apparently changed Rodman's life when he was close to suicide by way of a shotgun.
I could pick yellow ledbetter, nothingman, but I'll go with...
