I think Reggie Bush played his last game for the Saints yesterday.

He had a very interesting career in New Orleans.
Its very hard to put a label on him.

I remember him in college thinking he would be a bust in the NFL. I was not impressed. This was before I had any idea that my Saints would draft him.
Even had a very intense thread about this 6 years ago on this forum titled Reggie Bust.

Then I found out the Saints were going to draft Bush so I was forced to try to like him.

What I found out was how great of person he was off the field. Although I was not impressed with how I thought his game would translate to the NFL, I had no idea what kind of competitor he was. His will to win, his complete lack of selfishness.

He handled the Heisman thing with pure class. Personally I would have told them people I was keeping my trophy and would have told them to shove it, but Reggie gave it back without any problems even though he did not have to.

There are many players, if they would have been put in Reggies shoes would have been a huge distraction to all involved. Every year his role got reduced a little bit more each season, to the point where cast off Julius Jones was getting more touches then Reggie yesterday. He never complained, he just kept being a great teammate, and I will always respect him for that.

Did he put up the numbers that a #2 pick of the draft should put up? Not even close.

But I think the Saints made the right pick at the time.
Back then the Saints team was in shambles. After Katrina the chances of the Saints moving to another city were high.

When the Saints drafted Bush, the Saints went from 30K season tickets to selling out the dome with just season tickets.

Every game has been a complete sellout ever since. There is also a 15 year waiting list to get season tickets right now. Reggie deserves a lot of credit for that. He brought excitement that even Drew Brees could not bring at the time.

He has shown flashes of greatness on the field, but nothing sustainable.
But off the field you can make the case he saved the Saints from moving to another city.

For that I will always be greatfull, and I wish nothing but the best for Reggie in the future.:103631605

Off the field no my ass. This scumbag has no issue with the fact that he cheated and took money in college. He's a prima donna that loves the spotlight.

He is not a spotlight seeker.
I thought the samething until I watched him for 5 years.

He is a great team player that is always WE and not a ME type of guy.

If he plays next year for the Saints under his present contract he gets $13 million. So i would make the odds 13million to 1 he wont be back with the saints on the terms of his present contract. He cant play. He cant run, he cant block and he cant run after a catch plus he fumbles way to damn much. He's a liability and the leagues highest paid decoy ever. Good Riddance

Chop, good write up....

I'm have mixed feelings on him. "Off the field" he fucked over USC...but, if we were a poor, "from the hood" kid how would we have handled that situation? It's tough to judge him....but, of course many, many people will. At the end of the day, he broke the rules and now his college team is paying for it. But, on the other hand, he had to return the Heisman and that had to be shameful for him.

On the field; for a #2 overall pick...sure, he was probably a "bust". But there have been many others who more of a "bust" than he is/was (Leaf, Alex Smith, Akili Smith, the list goes on and on). He was a solid contributor....and he was a contributor to a Super Bowl winning team. The goal of a team when drafting a player is to improve the roster....make a playoff run....and hopefully get to/win a Super Bowl someday. Mission Accomplished. He may be a "bust" for a #2 pick...but does he care? He has a fat wallet and will likely be picked up by another team...and if he gets in the right situation could probably play several more years in the NFL.

Hard to say what kind of player Bush is. He never really got enough touches to showcase his talents so when he did touch the ball he tried to do too much with it. However he never could stay healthy when he did touch the ball. It seems like when he got tackled he was a boy playing a game against men. He is supposed to be considered a "big play" threat but it seems like in the past two years when he touched the ball the big plays ended up being for the other team with his fumbles or dropped passes.
