An assistant manager at McDonald's was fired after allowing Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson to use the bathroom while the restaurant was closed.
While working the late-night drive-thru shift at 3 a.m., a female employee encountered a man standing outside the window who asked to come inside and use the restroom. After a little while, she realized it was the popular Minnesota Vikings star and opened the door for him to come inside and use the facilities. (The seating area at the restaurant is normally closed during the late-night hours.)

One week later, the mother of three was fired for the offense.
"He's a public figure... I know him better than some of the maintenance people that come in and out," she told The Consumerist. "I never thought in a million years that that decision was going to cost me my career."
Jeez, McDonald's. It's not like she was letting in Brett Favre(notes) or Bryant McKinnie(notes). He's Adrian Peterson, the most famous Vikings player of all! If you can't do a solid for AD, who can you?
There's a silver lining at the end of these golden arches, though: After the local media reported on the woman's termination, McDonald's gave her back her old job.
Let this be a lesson to all you fast-food employees keen on handing out favors to famous athletes. It doesn't matter if Tom Brady(notes) walks through those doors; he has to pay $0.39 for supersizing just like everyone else

Her career at McDonald's is done.

That is a dumb reason for firing her. I really hate Yahoo's sensational headlines. They always pique your curiosity and then let you down when you realize they were just luring you in.

What she did is a direct violation of any restaurant's security policy. Allowing people in the unit before or after the doors are locked is just asking to be robbed

Never worked for McDonald's actually and frankly I doubt she knew it was AP. Found out after the fact is more likely and "sort of looks like him" would be giving the benefit of the doubt.

A hundred more times likely that someone wishing to enter a place when it is closed is going to rob the place than it is to be AP.

You need to read the article before making comments like this.
She knew exactly who he was.
If you think for one second that a guy that makes over 15mil a season is going to rob McDonalds, you dont have much sense.
Come on man, do you honestly think the lady should be fired for allowing her hero to use the BR?

Thats the problem with some of these corporate rules, yes it is good policy to not allow people to use the bathroom late at night, but any supervisor that would fire an assistant manager for letting AP use the bathroom ought to be fired themselves.

I tell you what, If I owned a business in New Orleans, and one of my employees let Drew Brees use the bathroom after the place was closed, I certainly would not fire that person. Even if it was against the rules.

You have to use your judgement.

I get all that - it's just something that you sign when you work at any retail place that before and after hours unauthorized persons are not allowed in the place.

I personally don't even buy she "knew" it was AP. 3 AM at a McDonald's drive thru and wanting to use the restrooms? I may have said to myself "looks a little like him" at best. Keep in kind a corporate restaurants won't even let an employee take trash out after 8 PM at night because of the security risk.

I get all what you wrote and I am glad she got her job back just next week when someone lets someone into a McDonald's at 3 AM to use the bathroom and the guy pulls out a gun and wipes out everyone (more likely this to happen then for it to be a celebrity) the thread here will read different.

It had a happy ending - no big deal - but don't fault the company that employee definitely was being totally reckless in terms of security procedures.

I'm in restaurant recruiting. I speak to at least one manager a week that gets fired from their job that gets caught violating a security procedure - someone in after close, someone in before the place opens, employee out the back door after dark, safe left unlocked, etc

There is no "using judgement". They get caught they get fired. Maybe someone in good with the higherups doesn't but it's definitely a policy in writing and if the manager isn't good and you want to let them go, haven't documented anything and don't want to pay unemployment you couldn't ask for a better setup.

An she would not have received unemployment comp they would have seen this as a proper termination.

For the record, I'm glad she kept her job - but she had no complaint if they let the termination stand

I understand your point, and not allowing people to use the bathroom at 3AM is good policy.
Im pretty sure the lady was not lying about knowing it was AP, otherwise she would have refused him from using the BR.
All im saying is, sometimes you have to use your judgement when making termination decisions.
This was a rare case of allowing someone to bend the rules.

their are people out there that look like other people ... what would you all be saying if she was raped because she let a guy in who looked exactly like AP that turned out to be someone else ?

i could see letting him in if their were multiple people still working , as in a bunch of guys ... was she alone ?

Yes, but AP is pretty easy to spot. I mean he was probably driving an 80K car, and if AP was this girls hero im sure she could have spotted a look a like from a mile away. I agree with firing the girl in 99.9999% of instances of breaking the rule, but this just happens to be the .000001% exception to the rule.
