(<)<I can tell you that I am glad I didn't have to grow up in that era. Just seems like so much constant stress to live in a society like that no matter what side of the color line you were on. A lot of people will complain that not enough has been done, but this country has come a long way.

Glad to be an American. :103631605

Oh yeah definitely. I went on stormfront.org the other day just cause I like to see what they think and they were talking about the congresswoman that got shot. They felt bad until it came out that she was jewish.

I personally believe all the racism is still there but just hidden.

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

Still true today, to a much lesser extent.

Well what have the Blacks or African-Americans, done to improve the situation in the last 40 or so years ?

They are pretty fvcked up and their "culture" discourages their youth from being successful. A youngster African carrying books home to study won't make it home ( with the books) Any city that is over 40% Black is a Hellhole !

That is the reality of the situation, case closed !

MLK' s dream failed. I once dreamed I won Powerball.

mlk helped get a lot of good done, but he was a man with many demons and rather 2 faced. As for black culture, sometimes its very hard to comprehend. Think i just saw that at a memphis high school, 90 girls are pregnant or just gave birth to a child. There are a lot more equal rights out there now than 40 years ago, but this current generation doesn't seem to be taking advantage of it

I lived through that era in my late teens/early twenties and am proud to have seen this country come to it's senses regarding Civil Rights. Martin Luther King was indeed a man of great vision, courage and principal without fear.

Watching segregation was painful. Having separate bathrooms, drinking fountains, schools, transportation split by race was awful. We can't say that all is right with the world or even this country, but the bigotry and hatred back then needed to be addressed. The people spoke and the representatives and President listened. One of the more important changes to our Constitution IMHO.

But has it really changed? If slavery was made legal again you know a lot of southerners would be in line to buy one ASAP.

pretty much every race or nationality has been a slave or exploited at one point. Asians with railroads and during ww2 were treated horribly, the irish with the potato famine etc

Yeah and there are still a lot of idiots in the world. Can't change that no matter how hard you try!

Do you know if they are white or black? I read the same story and it didn't say plus the photo with the article is that of a young white girl. Don't be so quick to judge.

This is what has happened in this country, everyone is so afraid of coming off as a racist that they do the complete opposite. Even if most crimes are committed by black people you'll never see a home security commercial with a black man breaking into a house.

It's like when you see a cop following you and you overreact by doing the complete opposite. You not only slow down but you go way beyond the speed limit. Even if most black teens are pregnant we can't say it. It's bullshit. Where do stats stop and racism start.
