all the ones around me seem to be so inflated in prices, just dont see how they ever make money selling items. Is there normally a ton of bartering for every item they sell?

I buy tools all the time. Yes, you do barter on everything. Almost like buying a car.

They usually want about 120% of new retail ( on sale) prices for used tools.

Yes, tools are a big item, especially the larger and more expensive.

A friend of mine owns a pawn shop, I worked for him one winter, It is unreal the prices they pay for new Items. He would offer someone $20 on something he could sell for $100 that was just to buy something stright out not to pawn.

If you want to shop pawnshops you need to know all about what you are buying. There are bargains to be had but you need to to know what you are dealing with.

I think these guys sell of excess stuff in large lots to some buyers they know ( at a decent price), who then resell the stuff at swapmeets and the like. They are ridiculous and inflexible to average customers.

That is completely wrong...IMO

for example I have bought 3 used DVD Players in the last 2 years....one is a Zenith DVD/VHS (Zenith XBV713) combo and I saved $25.00 from price that I would have paid on eBay or amazon....I use Cash America Pawn Store.

They don't pay a lot if you are pawning but when u are buying you can get some awesome deals.

Tools ?? Really ?

Never thought people will Pawn off Tools

Like what ? Power Tools ?

You're kidding right. I worked in construction for a while years ago. With the drug and alcohol problems most constructions workers have pawning their tools is a regular occurance.
