I probably should have read the rules before making the bet, but I knew Venus was banged up so I put a fairly substantial bet on Andrea Petkovic last night before I went to sleep. I wake up this morning and see that Venus retired after the first game so I was thinking WINNER. Come to find out the wager was cancelled. Went to the rules and sure enough a full set has to be completed for their to be any action on a wager. Seems kind of unfair to me considering the book had Venus as a dog last night because they knew she was banged up. I realize a rule is a rule, just wondering if this is the norm at most places.

Most books require at least one set be completed. Some books require that the match be completed or else the wager is voided. You MUST always read the rules at each particular book, especially when betting tennis.

This is the Norm...... and in MEN'S Tennis, it would have been Two Sets

Women’s Tennis – WTA – One full set must be completed for wagers to stand. If less than One set is completed, all wagers are considered void.

Men’s Tennis – ATP - Two full sets must be completed for wagers to stand. If less than two sets are completed, all wagers are considered void.

I figured it was probably the norm, I just never bet tennis. That line jumped out at me last night so I threw it down. Thanks for the feedback. I would have made the play regardless of the rule so I guess it doesn't really matter. I was just curious.

Some books are one ball. Where you should bet varies not only on odds but circumstances such as last night.

Same thing with MLB. No book is going to pay you if the game only lasts an inning before they call it off. I think the rule is fair.

ehhhh this is not a weather issue, i think some players retire to save face. Now if say cubs are down 14-0 to reds after 1st inning and they decided to concede defeat to save their bullpen, you dont think people who bet the reds should get paid?

I haven't seen a sportsbook that doesn't have a rule about the game lasting a certain amount of innings to be official as a bet.

i know jake, but unlike tennis teams in baseball cant just throw up a white flag and end the game immediately. alot of times I think tennis people give up due to injury to save their image and ego when they are just getting beat.

I think Venus has always been a dog but I guess I'm not talking about odds now am I?
