ATLANTIC CITY--Authorities in Atlantic City are looking for the man who beat and robbed a casino patron inside a bathroom. Some say it's just another blow for the city's image.
"It's a shame that you can't even go to the bathroom without being attacked," said Lee Craver of Ventnor. But that's exactly what happened this morning, when police say a man grabbed a casino patron who was standing at urinal, and slammed his head against the restroom wall.
The attack happened around 6:00 this morning, in a men's room just off the casino floor at Bally's. Police say the man seen in a surveillance photo also punched the 28 year-old victim in the face several times, before forcibly taking $100 from him as he was lying on the floor, semiconscious.
"It's just scary , very, very scary that people can do something like that and get away with it," said Christina Nunez, "because there should be more security."
Authorities say the victim suffered head, nose and other injuries to the face and was treated and released from the hospital this morning. While he should be OK, some are concerned it's Atlantic City's image that may be hurt by this. "You wanna bring more and more people here, but you have to make sure that you can protect them," said Craver, "you know, you have to make sure they can feel safe coming to the casinos."
"I'm always looking over my shoulder you know," said Kelly Nelson, a waitress in the city, "because you can't be too careful anymore."
In a statement, Bally's said, "The safety of our guests and employees is of the utmost importance. This is a very unfortunate incident and we are working closely with the authorities."
If you recognize the man in the surveillance photo, you're asked to contact the authorities by calling 609-347-5766.
