Carson Palmer will ask the Cincinnati Bengals to trade him and will contemplate retirement if he does not get his wish, according to several sources.

Palmer, the No. 1 overall pick by the Bengals in 2003, was unavailable for comment as he and his wife Shaelynn were awaiting the birth of their third child.

A Bengals spokesman had no comment. The team has Palmer under contract through 2014.

Palmer has become the object of fan frustration in the past two years and sources said he has grown frustrated with the team's inconsistencies. The Bengals finished 4-12 in 2010.

Sources familiar with Palmer's plan and mindset said he is financially secure for the rest of his life and willing to follow through and retire.

Several teams will be in the market for quarterbacks this offseason. Seattle will have an opening at quarterback if the Seahawks can't re-sign Matt Hasselbeck. Palmer won the Heisman Trophy for now-Seahawks coach Pete Carroll at USC in 2002. San Francisco, where his wife was raised, and Arizona could also be options.

Palmer suffered a major knee injury in a first-round playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at the end of the 2005 season. He also suffered an elbow injury in 2008 and considered Tommy John surgery before choosing to rehab without having the operation.

His value ain't what it use to be.

Arizona would probably take a stab. Tenny even for a temporary fix until they draft a young QB.

Cards could be a bit pissed also because the Bengals may just snatch Gabbert up prior to them getting a chance.

Who would want to play for an owner like Mike Brown????

The guy didn't even take cheerleaders to the Super Bowl to save money in 1989.

Mike Brown named his stadium after his father, but want the Pats to share the millions they get from Gillette for their naming rights. Fucking scumbag.

That being said, Palmer can't cry now because he was dumb enough to sign an extension.

The two losers deserve each other.

My 49ers would welcome him. Guy is a good QB behind a terrible offensive line.

49ers make the most sense, they probably win that division with him at QB next year. Sounds like he's pretty surprised they brought Lewis back. Arizona, Minnesota and Carolina would be the next logical choices.

Carson Palmer and a 4th round pick for DeAngelo Williams???

Quite clear that if the Cards or 9ers get a quality QB they will win the division...unless the Rams go out and make some major improvements to their receiving corp.

CINCINNATI -- Bengals owner Mike Brown says he won't trade quarterback Carson Palmer.

Brown said on Monday that Palmer met with him a little more than a week ago and asked to be traded. Brown told Palmer that he wouldn't consider it because the quarterback is central to the team's plans. He plans to talk to Palmer again to try to smooth over their differences.

"He's good people," Brown said, according to the team's website. "He made no demands. He is the way he is. He didn't finger anyone or anything."

Several sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that Palmer will contemplate retirement if the Bengals do not trade him.

Sources familiar with Palmer's plan and mindset told Mortensen that the quarterback is financially secure for the rest of his life and willing to follow through and retire.

Brown made the comments in an interview with The Cincinnati Enquirer and the team's website in Mobile, Ala., where the Bengals are coaching players for the Senior Bowl.

The Bengals have made no significant changes coming off a 4-12 season. Coach Marvin Lewis returned even though Brown said the front office didn't need to change. The Bengals have only two winning records in the last 20 years.

Top tier QB until the bad injury in the 1st quarter of the playoff game with Pitts a few years ago. Ever since then his play has tended downward. He's too stationary, sad to see his recent play, I don't think he could start for USC now.

Disgruntled Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer is preparing to put his home up for sale, WCPO -TV reported Wednesday.

A local real estate agent confirmed to the station that preparations are being made to have Palmer's home on the market as early as March.

"He's not coming back", according the agent who reportedly spoke with the veteran quarterback on Wednesday.

It has been widely reported that Palmer plans to retire if the Bengals fail to honor his trade request after eight seasons in Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Bengals president Mike Brown has reportedly turned down the trade request made last month.

Palmer's agent David Dunn issued a statement at the time saying his client believes the window for achieving success in Cincinnati has come and gone.

"[Brown and Palmer] both expressed profound disappointment in how the team fared last season, and in how it has generally performed during Carson's tenure with the team," Dunn's statement read.

"Because of the lack of success that Carson and the Bengals have experienced together, Carson strongly feels that a separation between him and the Bengals would be in the best interest of both parties," he added.

Palmer is under contract with Cincinnati through 2014. He was said to be disillusioned amid growing fan frustration at his performances during the Bengals' disappointing 4-12 season.

The 31-year-old threw for 3,970 yards with 26 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He ranked 19th among quarterbacks with an 82.4 passer rating — his lowest full season rating since his first year as a starter in 2004.

The Bengals would be lucky if this stiff retired. Big time salary cap relief.
