Home Security Systems

Just bought a house, thinking about getting a security system since it will be just my fiance at the house at times.

It doesn't have to be the best system, I just want if someone breaks in, it scares them off or the cops come.

What are the cost? What company should I go through? Any other advice?

LOL @ lax.. I thought about that, but never heard it called the redneck system. I was going to do it if we bought the first house that we made an offer on because it was older and floors were a little worn, but the house we ended up getting is new construction, so new floors, and I dont want a dog to tear up the house yet...

Big thank you to Dante. If ProtectAmerica is in my area (never heard of em) I may go with that, but still wanting to hear others thoughts and opinions... 37$ a month is a good price for piece of mind.

You can either get one of the big name companies to do the initial installation, buy your own equipment and install it yourself, or search for a lesser advertised company to do an installation. If you choose the well known company for you installation, stick with them for whatever their minimum monitoring period is then switch to little advertised company for your monitoring. It's the monitoring, the continual monthly charge where they get you. I was with Brinks at $27 a month and saved $15 a month by just switching the monitoring. The monitoring is nothing more than some call center that checks for alerts that your system sends out.

Monitoring is were the real cost is, and is really what the system is all about....
