One thing nice about living on the west coast, is you get a chance to watch the whales migrating twice each year. Around February and March you get a chance to spot the whales heading south for the winter as they head to Mexico to breed.

Sometime around April and May they head back north to Alaska. If you're lucky enough, you can sometimes catch a sighting in the hills of Point Loma as they pass through San Diego.

I know when I visited Maui, you could watch the humpback whales if you went out on a whale watching boat.

They say that this year in San Diego has been a very good whale watching year with pods of up to 8 whales all swimming together.

So next time you come down to visit S.D., put whale watching on your schedule, and hopefully get a sighting of these beautiful sea mammals.

I actually have. Off of Cape Cod, MA. It was truly a sight.
Pretty much the same here, left from the dock by the aquarium.

I saw some amazing sights. Just be sure to bring a camera and always have it ready! You never know when that epic photo op will happen.
