Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco said Tuesday that he plans to change his last name back to Johnson.
The high profile receiver originally changed his surname to Ochocinco in 2008. The Bengals’ wideout opted to make the legal change in honor of his nickname, which is Spanish for his jersey number — 85.
Johnson, speaking on ESPN’s “NFL Live,” also said he wants to stay in Cincinnati next season, but joked he and his head coach Marvin Lewis might have to have a preseason fight.
Lewis responded to rumors on Monday that Ochocinco was interested in playing for New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, saying, “Belichick’s smarter than that.”
Ochocinco responded to Lewis’ comment on Twitter Monday, writing, "AssWhoopnTime."
The 33-year-old, selected to the Pro Bowl on six occasions, has 10,783 receiving yards on 751 receptions with 66 touchdowns since joining the Bengals as a second-round draft pick in 2001.
He holds the Bengals' franchise records for most receiving yards and receptions.
Ochocinco’s numbers were down this season. He managed just 831 yards on 67 receptions and four touchdowns for the third-lowest totals of his career.
