Never been to New York City.

Taking the family on a cross country road trip this summer. Plan to stay 3 nights in or around NYC. Would appreciate some good advice.

We will be driving and have a car. Should we stay outside the city and take public transport in to view the sites? Or is it a must to stay in the city? If so, what is the parking situation?

This trip is going to cost a pretty penny for us as it is. I was thinking of staying in an outlying area to save a few bucks. Then take public transport. Is this a good idea? Any advice? Thanks in advance.

No, you are better off staying in the City it self, Find a Hotel that has parking .. but at a small min $$ per day.
Then use Mass transit to get around.

maybe worst case , you come out to long Island ( might be cheaper hotels ) and Drive to the City or take the LIRR to the City

Thanks BAS. Looking into hotels that offer parking as I type...

Also, what day of the week do you get in ?? and at what time of the day ?
You Can park on the streets in some areas, but you need to watch signs...

Nah, think you are better finding a Hotel that offers parking.

I can get the Hilton Garden Inn Staten Island for under $200 a night. Coming in June 9 for 3 nights. Thoughts?

Or North Begen, Jersey City, something like that and take the 10 minute Path train over.

Try Il Mulino's on w4th - best italian.

Park Ave Autumn or Park Ave Winter is excellent

Stone Lotus on 4th floor of the mandarin has a great view and tons of hot chicks.

Little Branch on 7th ave has the best drinks you'll ever have
