there is no salary cap in mlb...But there is a payroll tax...

& when the royals use the millions they get from the yankees,..for front office bonuses instead of scouting or investing in players...c'mon...

The tampa rays...they achieved success thru advanced scouting, drafting, & player development...

they have an opp every season because of their hard work & commitment to those areas...

other teams like kc & pittsburgh keep the money for their own checkbooks..

A lot to think about here. Post #2 makes for some interesting points worth giving maybe a little thought to.

In fairness to Bill Maher I should be QB of the Patriots then? I'm sure CBS would pay a Billion dollars in TV rights to watch.
Because fuck, people don't want to pay the smartest toughest biggest fastest atheletes in the world play. They want to watch social justice play.
You know a deaf mute calling the plays, a fuckin retard at QB an overweight wheelchair running back a midget at widout and an amputee nose guard and Norv Turner as coach.
If I want watch social justice play I'll go and sit and watch the RMV or airport screeners.

What does that have to do with what Bill Maher said in that video?

A lot. He says the NFL workks because of socialism because the worst team picks 32nd or dead last.Yeah OK.The top team picks last or 32nd of the top 1% atheletes in the sport. Not "Blind Lemon Shorty Watson from the fuckin Harlem homeless shelter.
The NFL is a buisness where there is no tolerance for weak sisters. There are standards set and met.
In other words all these teams have skin in the game, for the good of the buisness. And even with some of the richest smartest people in the world owning these teams under these "socialist rules" they stiil fuck up their handout. (examples above by another poster)
Maher thinks this would work for society in general, which is beyond laughable. Can you imagine the goverment telling welfare folk that there are standards to be met before you get your freebe?
By the way I believe the NFL also besides a salary ceiling they have a salary floor where all revenues given must be invested back into the team.
Can you imagine telling welfare parents that aportion of their welfare check had to go for their childs college funds?..There would be rioting in the streets.

The best analogy I've heard to date of what's really going on in this country.

I think Maher makes a good point regarding baseball vs football. Perhaps there is something MLB could do to make all of the teams more competitive, instead of the current scenario where the bottom 10 teams are basically farm teams for the top 4 teams.
