Source: Warner Bros. Pictures January 30, 2011

Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that Henry Cavill will play Clark Kent/Superman in the Zack Snyder-directed Superman movie:

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Henry Cavill has won the coveted role of Superman, the iconic superhero.

The film will be directed by Zack Snyder, who stated, “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

Cavill recently wrapped production on “The Cold Light of Day” and stars in the upcoming “Immortals,” opening this fall.

Targeted for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

I actually find it strange that this is scheduled for a December release. Seems like a summer blockbuster.

Last I heard from the rumor mill is that they are intending to pick up right after Superman 2 and act like 3 and 4 and the last disaster Superman Returns didn't happen.

Bad thing about that is alot of people havent seen #2 in a long time which makes me think they might start from scratch again.Just like with Spiderman as they are going from the start again with Raimi and Maquire gone which sucks as you can just continue and bring in new villians

Yeah. The good thing is the Nolan has his hand in the pot and regardless we should get a quality storyline.

Superman Returns was far from a disaster....it had the highest audience approval since #2, and made almost 400 million worldwide.....it was considered a major success in resurrecting the franchise.....now III was pretty lousy (even with richard pryor) and IV:Quest for Peace WAS the definition of a disaster..

Superman II is one of those rare cases where i fully believe the sequel outshined the original...the 3 villians from Krypton were so much more fun to watch...much like Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan which blew away the original..

By the way, any film with Lex Luthor as the star villian is never going to bet that interesting, entertaining, or exciting...

I should state from my view I couldn't stand the whole premise of him having a son with Louise and returning years later to find this out. Ruined it for me. Didn't like Bosworth as Lane either. Margaret Kidder was very sassy and had that spunk that Bosworth didn't come close to.

Amy Adams is Lois Lane!
Source: Warner Bros. Pictures March 27, 2011

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Amy Adams will star in the coveted role of Lois Lane in the new Zack Snyder-directed Superman feature film.

Snyder remarked, "Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about. So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful."

Amy Adams will star opposite Henry Cavill, who plays the new Clark Kent/Superman in the film. The main cast also includes Diane Lane and Kevin Costner, as Martha and Jonathan Kent.

Amy Adams was recently honored with her third Oscar nomination in five years, for her performance in the true-life drama The Fighter, with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. She previously earned Oscar nominations for her work in the acclaimed films Doubt and Junebug. She has also starred in such diverse hits as Enchanted, Julie & Julia, Charlie Wilson's War, and Catch Me If You Can. She will next be seen in Walter Salles' On the Road with Viggo Mortensen and The Muppets.

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

Superman is currently scheduled for release in December 2012.

I like this casting. Way better than Kate Bosworth in the last go round.
