“Sharp Check”: A new service for betting agents

It doesn’t matter if you are a local bookie or an offshore sportsbook; the thing you fear most is a sharp bettor as a client. Take action from a few sharp bettors and they’ll not only eat away at your profits, but don’t be surprised if you find yourself in the red at the end of the month.

Now, offshore bookmaking joints can usually weather the storm and in some cases they don’t mind taking wise-guy action.

First off, their player base is usually so large that that countless square players will offset the handful of wise-guys. Secondly, these online sports bookies have betting software that can detect sharp action so they are often on top of every bet that comes in. The large books can detect a sharp bettor quickly and respond accordingly.

When an offshore sportsbook finds a sharp bettor, they simply cut their limits or stop taking their action altogether. Now, why wouldn’t they cut off every sharpie? Easy answer: the guys that move the lines use the sharp bettor’s information in order to themselves have a sharper betting line. Basically the sportsbooks don’t mind losing to a sharp bettor as long as they are getting the important information.

Now, a local bookie doesn’t have all of the tools to detect sharp action. A couple sharp bettors wagering the max and Joe Bookie will be looking for a job real quick.
Even if said bookie uses pay per head services, he’ll still be getting hammered. That is, until now…

Payperhead.com offers a unique service to all of their pph agents; something that our PayPerHead.com contact Michael T. calls the ‘sharp check’.

“Every day our guys are looking for sharp action. These are guys that have been in this business for a long time. They can spot a sharp bettor in just a matter of minutes.”

How is this so? Obviously, if the player is a consistent winner, that is a great indicator; however, there are other ways to determine whether someone is a sharp bettor or simply on a good run. Maybe the best way is to look at if the bettor beat the line moves. If he’s consistently doing so, that is a huge red flag.

So what does Michael T.’s crew do with this important intel?

“On a weekly basis we contact our price per head agents that have suspected sharpies. Of course it is up to the agent to decide whether or not they want to continue to take their action.”

Michael T. continued:

“Just three weeks ago we detected some sharp betting patterns from a new player of one of our agents. Although the player wasn’t up a large amount of money, all of the warning signs were there. We proceeded to give the agent a call to give him a heads-up.”
So what happened?

“The agent decided to keep taking this player’s action. Two weeks later, the player is up to almost $40,000. After settling up with the player, the agent proceeded to cut him off. I spoke to the agent a few days later and he said he wished he took our earlier warning a little more seriously; but he thanked us for looking out and he was more confident than ever that he chose the best pay per head services available.”

So, what is the moral of the story?

If you are a bookie and you want to maximize your profits every month, align yourself with a pay per head shop that truly looks out for their agents bottom line. Michael T. and the rest of his crew at PayPerHead.com are the only group around that offer their agents anything that resembles a ‘sharp check’.

It takes one wager to determine is your client is a sharp bettor or not.
