Now that we’ve gotten the shameless public showcase of how lazy football would look if the players didn’t have anything to fight for that we call the Pro Bowl out of the way, it’s high time we start thinking about blowing all of the money we’ve been saving up to cover for our Christmas debts. Yes, the Super Bowl prop bets are here! Why not make yourself look like an idiot in front of all your friends by pleading with my projected Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers to thank God during his post-game interview instead of his family or team because that’s the prop bet you took.
Think you’re an expert on how long it’ll take Christina Aguilera to sing the National Anthem? Or if Blake Griffin will score more points against the Heat on Sunday than the Packers will against the Steelers? R.J. Bell of Pregame.com has Provided a list of all the crazy prop bets people have concocted to help deal with the crushing realization that guacamole is a vastly inferior dipping sauce to salsa, and you just bought eight pounds of it.
I’m hoping they add a bet asking if the Black Eyed Peas are going to be terrible at halftime because that’s a stone cold lock if I’ve ever seen one.

SUPER BOWL XFSUJDKJHJBJBJQSIV
DailyFeed
From the Bleacher Report comes a batch of the weirdest proposition bets a gambler can make on this Sunday's Super Bowl XFSUJDKJHJBJBJQSIV:

How Long Will Christina Aguilera Hold the Note “Brave”?

How Many Times Will FOX Show Jerry Jones?

Will Any Live Animal Appear on the Field During Halftime Show?

What Color Liquid Will They Pour on the Winning Coach?

What Will Be Mentioned First, Cheesehead or Terrible Towel?

Will Fergie Wear a Cowboy Hat During Halftime?

Will Any Live Ball Hit the Scoreboard During the Game?

Which Player's Hair Gets Mentioned First?

Will There Be a Wardrobe Malfunction?

But the real winner here is RJ Bell of Pregame.com, with his list of "first end zone celebration" props (with odds):

Ball Spike: +$300
Championship Belt +$300
Lambeau Leap +$300
Dunk over cross bar: +$400
Quiets the Crowd +$600
Bicep flex +$700
Backflip: +$800
Snow Angel: +$1100
Signs football with Sharpie: +1700

Andy Thompson column: Super Bowl opens Pandora's Box of proposition bets to gamblers

February 2, 2011

Millions of dollars continue to pour into Las Vegas gambling centers in anticipation of Sunday's Super Bowl XLV matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

While much of the betting action centers on whether the favored Packers can cover the 2½-point spread, there's plenty of other, more exotic wagers — known as proposition bets — that are bringing in big bucks.

The "prop" bets were posted last week on various Las Vegas sports book websites. They include everything from the trivial — such as which team will win the pregame coin toss — to the unusual.
And the surreal.
The Bodog Sportsbook has a variety of thought- provoking bets for those who aren't interested in the point spread.
Here's a sampling:

"How long will it take Christina Aguilera to sing the national anthem?" (over/under one minute, 52 seconds). You also can bet on how long Aguilera holds the note "brave" at the end of the anthem (over/under six seconds), whether she'll wear a cowboy hat and whether her hair color will be anything but blonde.

"How many times will Fox Sports show (Dallas Cowboys owner) Jerry Jones on TV during the game?" (over/under 2½ times).

"How many times will Fox mention Brett Favre during the game?" (over/under 2½).

<LI itxtvisited="1">"Will a punt hit the scoreboard during the game?"

"Who will the Super Bowl MVP thank first?" (Choices: the coach, family, God, teammates, no one).

"Will a Steelers player do the Aaron Rodgers championship belt celebration during the game?"

"Will any player do the 'Lambeau Leap' after a touchdown?"
Here's my favorite prop wager: "What color will the Gatorade be that is dumped on the head coach of the winning Super Bowl team?" The choices are green, clear/water, lime green, orange, red or yellow.
While there are some interesting prop bets that have little or nothing to do with what happens on the field, there is no shortage of options for those who love the minutia of football.
You can travel to Vegas (since I know no one would gamble illegally here) and put money down on these brain teasers: which team will score first; whether a team will score in the first seven minutes and 30 seconds of the first quarter; the Packers' total points (over/under 23½); the team to cross the 50-yard-line first; the team to enter the "red zone" first; the team to reach 10 points — or more — first; the Packers' first scoring play (passing touchdown, rushing touchdown, defensive or special teams TD, field goal or safety); the longest touchdown (over/under 42½ yards); total touchdowns (over/under five); which team will punt first; which team will call the first timeout; and the team to call the first coach's challenge.
There's even "cross sports props" for gamblers to choose from. One of the most intriguing is the Packers' total points vs. the Boston Celtics' Rajon Rondo's total points and assists against the Orlando Magic on Sunday.
Or the Packers' first-half points total vs. the number of first-half points by the Miami Heat's LeBron James against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Suffice to say, there's no shortage of betting alternatives — both mainstream and offbeat — for Super Bowl XLV.
That's the way it should be. Why should football purists have all the fun?
