I hate remakes of anything. I still can't believe they're already rebooting the Spiderman series. The superhero stuff is already getting to be too much.

You get a good remake every now and then, but when the original actor could probably play the same role and almost look the same...it's an indication that it's too soon. Remakes shouldn't occur within at least a 20 year span IMO.

Music today is the same way. All of this post punk junk was done 30 years ago. And better. Most of the generation today just can't seem to find their own niche when it comes to movies & music. Every once in a while somebody will come along with an original idea. But most of the good orginal filmaking and TV shows are coming from Europe. Even our biggest reality show Survivor was ripped off from Great Britain. And if you noticed, even the some of the best movies up for Oscar this year The King's Speech, The Fighter, 127 Hours and The Social Network were based on true stories. You very seldom see really good original fictional screenplays made into movies or tv anymore like they did back in the 70's. I thought the best original screenplay and movie made this year was Inception. But those kinds of oscar worthy movies don't come along very often. Not like they used to.

GoSooners, what type of music do you like? Let me guess the music you grew up with?

People need to realize that the music from their time was not better or worse. It's all the same shit except when you're younger you're into that. It's just too much of a fucking coincidence that everyone loves the music that was around during their youth. They can't put two and two together and realize the only reason they like it is because they were young.

Saw it today.

Chose it over Sanctum and it actually turned out to be pretty decent, unlike what the critics had to say about it and exactly why I don't pay any attention to them...

I disagree about what you and I grew up with being my influence. I'm just as open to good music made today than I was back then. But I just don't hear very many memorable bands or individual artists who write great music on a consistent basis. Honestly, tell me a good songwriter/band that has come along starting in the 80's to now that your going to remember 40 or 50 years from now like you do the Dylan's, Neil Young's, or the Springsteen's of the past. I think the last great bands that we've had were U2 and maybe the Police. But still, those bands even started in the 70's. And neither of them are American bands.

Two remakes that are supposed to be in the works that I am against are Lethal Weapon and Total Recall.

Yeah, I agree with you about REM. Although they are another band that formed over 30 years ago. All I'm saying is I would like to see what an oldies station looks like 40 years from now trying to play today's music. Will it be all one hit wonders?

I'm a big time Hollywood movie producer and I'm very interested in making your movie. Please PM me. All I require is a one time fee of $500 but don't worry once your picture takes off you'll be fully reimbursed.

GoSooners, what were some bands from your youth?
Most of the stuff I listened to back in the 70's weren't exactly from top 40 bands. But for the most part, their music has held up very well. Procol Harum, Jeff Beck Group, Faces, Sir Douglas Quintet, Spirit, Big Star (REM's biggest influence) Lou Reed, Steve Forbert, Van Morrison, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Allman Brothers, The Band, Traffic, Warren Zevon. Starting in the late 70's early 80's Elvis Costello, Los Lobos, Graham Parker & The Rumour, The Blasters, Rank & File, REM. There was a lot of great music still being played in the early to mid 80's. Many great Austin bands unknown at the time, came up and played in my city in the 80's like the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Ely. There are some good bands playing today that I like. But none of them are top 40 hit type bands. The Black Keys, Widespread Panic, Ray Lamontagne, Todd Snider, Neko Case. Most of my musical tastes nowadays have switched towards blues bands. I've been around music all of my life because I grew up around a bunch of musicans. And another good friend that I grew up with is now one of the biggest band promoters in my state. I also lived down the street from the manager of the Flaming Lips. My sister was a disc jockey at a local club here in the early 80's. And she got me into some great shows by bands who were fairly unknown at the time, but went on to hit it big later like REM, INXS, The Clash, U2.

But GoSooners, you just proved my point. There is still great music out there. Everyone generation says their music was the best and the new stuff sucks. Oldies stations in the future will be good just the same because only the best music survives any time period. The 60's and 70's were full of horrible music as well.
