Former Ohio State quarterback Art Schlichter is at the center of a sports-ticket scheme investigation, sources familiar with the matter told The Columbus Dispatch.

Local and federal authorities are investigating a scheme that reportedly swindled numerous people out of several million dollars.

The 50-year-old Schlichter, a former All-American quarterback at Ohio State in the late 1970s and early 80s, reportedly solicited people for money as part of an "investment opportunity" that involved brokering and selling tickets for Ohio State football games and other prominent sporting events to various people nearly two years ago.

The money collected by Schlichter was then used to place bets, some of which exceeded six figures, according to The Dispatch.

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien was unable to confirm, deny or discuss anything involving Schlichter in an e-mail to The Dispatch.

Schlichter is no stranger to run-ins with the law. Schlichter has served time in 44 prisons or jails since 1994.
