Meat Loaf: Hell in a Handbasket, coming later this year.

Wow!!! hopefully i can keep from getting banned on the meatloaf fan forum long enough to get all the details. There's only about 52 Meat Loaf fans on the face of the earth -- basically me and 51 fat women -- but you've gotta hand it to the guy. Fresh off a 6 month+ world wide tour for the last album, he's going right back to the studio to record another album and talking about ANOTHER world wide tour beginning early next year. Although the last album had disappointing sales considering that it was produced by Rob Cavallo and featured several guest stars (most notably a duet with Jack Black), it was a SOLID rock record and his vocals were the best they have been in 15+ years, so I'm glad to see him plugging along while he's in top form.

For you Bat Out of Hell diehards, all reports indicate that the highly anticipated and monstrously produced "Bat Out of Hell: The Musical" will hit the stages sometime next year. Creator and composer Jim Steinman is keeping a very tight lid on the specifics, although he is on record as stating that there will be an Evil Knievel type stunt that involves a motorcycle, fire, and a giant bat. Perhaps this is a reason the Ole Loaf isn't wasting any time getting back out on the road -- considering that he has not been invited to be a part of Steiman's project, the next best thing is to have a new record and tour to coincide with the launch of the Bat Out of Hell show.

Keep rocking Meat Loaf -- fuck the Justin Biebers of the world

As much as I hate bieber, it takes a special kind of person to pelt a kid with a bottle, hope he got what he had coming to him

One of the side affects of Bieber Fever is bottle tossing.

high fives and beers
I'm guessing you don't have kids, I happen to have a son about the same age and if some guy ever pelted him with a beer bottle, he'd be unrecognizable by the time I was finished. If Mob mentality convinces you it's okay and cool to assault a child, then you're just as much of a low IQ follower as the kids that attend his shows.

Saw Marvin a couple of months ago, thoroughly loved the show. Disappointed that he changed the arrangements of some of the old hits, tho, namely "Paradise By the Dashboard", one of the best rock songs ever. The old man's still got it. Will be interesting to see how he does on The Apprentice starting next month.

To those that don't know, Marvin is Meatloaf's name.

i had a friend call me last month, said meat loaf's going to be on celebrity apprentice, after looking around i realized it wouldn't be till march.....whenever he's on tv or makes the news, i'm guaranteed to get a half dozen calls because when people see meat loaf they think of me......there are VERY few live performances of PBTDL that i like because he tends to go overboard with making a spectacle of it, i just wish he'd sing the song.....but putting on a show is what he's known for -- how many other men in their mid 60s could put on a 2 hour show the way he does?

his voice on live shows was downright horrible from 95 up to just a couple years ago, hell even i was embarrassed.....i was stunned by how good he sounded on this last tour, i think having rob cavallo along on the last record got him to enjoying it again, and from what i read cavallo hasn't been ruled out from producing the next one.....Hang Cool Teddy Bear was the first record he's done in the last 20 years where i didn't get the feeling he was trying to remake "i'd do anything for love" or "bat out of hell"

Dawg, besides the obvious Bat Out of Hell, what other Meatloaf albums are good?

bat out of hell 3 was decent, although it should have been titled something else since the man who created the whole bat out of hell concept was absent from the project (nice little 30 year soap opera there). i'm trying to think in a broader sense here, obviously i like the majority of his stuff, so when i say decent that's just me trying to be fair....."In the Land of the Pigs the Butcher is King" was a pretty good rocker that I thought would have been a good single to release from bat 3, but his marketing people have been releasing the ballads as singles because of the success of "anything for love" (the opening single from bat 3 was a remake of celine dion's "it's all coming back to me now" for god's sake). i was thrilled when the finally got away from this strategy on last year's record.

it would probably be easier to recommend his best songs instead of records -- while i like his 80s records, i'll be the first to admit that they're forgettable unless you're already a fan -- nothing there that i think would appeal to a new audience. off the bat 3 record i'd recommend "land of the pigs", "break it", and "alive", that album was released in 06 and was the most recent until last year's record -- which i think is his best work in 2 decades and would recommend to anyone.

his 02 record "couldn't have said it better" was pretty good, i'd recommend the songs "testify" and "love you out loud", and it also had a couple of his better ballads if you're in the mood for that from time to time. as far as his 80s music, if you're in the mood to check out a few songs, "nowhere fast", "execution day" "read em and weep" and "midnight at the lost and found", and "surf's up" come to mind. i would give the nod for his best 80s record to "Dead Ringer", as all the songs were written by Jim Steinman (Bat Out of Hell creator) and also featured a duet with cher titled "Dead Ringer For Love". obviously his best record of the 90s was Bat Out of Hell 2, although most people don't realize that there were just 3 new songs on that record -- the other songs were recycled from Jim Steinman's solo album "Bad For Good", which was originally slated to be the followup to Bat Out of Hell, but Meat Loaf was unable to perform it.

so in short, i'd highly recommend Hang Cool Teddy Bear, although i felt the ballads on that album were weak, but overall it's a fun record with some solid rockers. i almost forgot -- before there was Bat Out of Hell there was Free For All, an album by Ted Nugent that featured a young Meat Loaf on vocals. That is a record worth getting, I'll see if I can find a youtube clip......found one
