The "consulting surgeon" whispers that he believes the best-case strategy for handling Roy is this: A) Limit Roy's practice reps to almost nothing; B) Play him off the bench in 65-75 or so games a season, choosing rest in key spots; C) pray. Surgeon suspects the Blazers might get 1-2 years out of Roy employing this strategy. Right now, I think they'd take that, and hope for the best. Roy is a fierce competitor and I won't count him out.

Really unfortunate, but not very surprising. Hopefully he can come back healthy.

no meniscus in both knees, he's screwed unfortunately no matter what positive angle you try to spin on it. A few games under the belt and the pain will come back. Seemed like a nice guy and one of the few decent ambassadors for the sport.

Yep, sad story. Saw this coming from a long ways away, unfortunately.

Roy fights tears during role reduction

08:08 AM ET 04.20 | Brandon Roy was fighting off tears Tuesday as he watched a parade of teammates enter the game before him: Nicolas Batum, Rudy Fernandez, Patty Mills. All told, the three-time All-Star played a scoreless 7:59, missed his only shot from the field, missed both of his free throws, and made one turnover. "There was a point in the first half, and I was thinking 'You better not cry,'" Roy said. ... Roy was one of the first players to leave the locker room, but when he was stopped in the hallway, the hurt and confusion were still evident. "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little hurt, or disappointed," Roy said. "But the biggest thing is to keep moving, to try and keep my spirits up. But it's tough man. I just ... I just always thought I would be treated better. That was a little disappointing for me."

Was talking to a writer who knows him very well at the game last and was saying the same thing.

He couldn't even get back on defense or get up and go in transition.

Roy had the skills and potential to be a superstar caliber player. Really thought this next year was going to be his year.

He was given 26 minutes in the first game and didn't do well at all, 1-7 shooting, 4 personal fouls, and 2 points. Wallace was brought in specifically to fill in the void and the blazer's best chances of winning are when batum and wallace are getting brandon's minutes.

He is just having difficulty going from franchise player to bench platoon so it's not surprising his ego is hurt. The conclusion? He is done and should face it like a man, go into coaching or scouting and think about a career after basketball if you dont want to be a bench role player.
