How to bet on NFL, CFB, CBB

ABOUT THIS BLOG

Chad Millman

Chad first joined ESPN The Magazine as an editor in 1998. A year later he left to write "The Odds" -- about a trio of Vegas bookmakers and wise guys -- and to find riches working for an Internet company. He made tens of dollars on "The Odds," and the web biz tanked. So he returned to The Mag, where he is now a senior deputy editor. He also worked at Sports Illustrated and wrote some other books, including "Iceman" with Chuck Liddell, "Invincible" with Vince Papale, "Pickup Artists" with Lars Anderson, and "The Detonators." His most recent books are the national bestseller "The Ones Who Hit the Hardest," about the blood feud between the 70s Steelers and Cowboys, written with Shawn Coyne, and the New York Times bestseller "They Call Me Baba Booey", with Gary Dell'Abate.
Millman's daily blog explores the culture of sports gambling; on Thursdays (CFB) and Fridays (NFL) in the fall, he investigates trends in point spreads related to football.

Also listen to him on the BS report. But to be honest he pretty much knows nothing about betting and I'm not sure how "sharp" most of the guys he talks to are.

I listen to his podcasts because I have a boring job, but he isn't sharp at all.

Interesting to see how far ESPN goes with this.

They have odds, stats, odds analysis, trends, line movements, etc. in a "wagering advice" section...

yeah, i think it only helps our cause....just makes wagering more mainstream, and acceptable......also like to always see the "lines" posted in the paper......funny that gambling is so bad and ruins every family in america, yet they keep promoting how to bet on it......someday MAYBE the gov't will wake up and realize the up side of this

I wonder what prompted the change in attitude towards gambling at ESPN though. Has to be somebody high up that said "yeah, let's let this rookie Millman try and figure out what gambling is about".

I think part of it might be that Bill Simmons openly talks about gambling on his podcasts/articles and those have been wildly successful, so maybe somebody ESPN finally just said "screw it, the reason we're in business is people love to gamble, so let's cater to it already".

It is funny because I ran into an article by him about a year and a half ago that got me interested in sports handicapping. What really struck me was how much of the terminology and concepts translated from investing in financial markets.
