Is Carmelo Anthony a center piece to a franchise or better served as playing a Pippen type role?

Been thinking this over as all the trade rumors pick up once again.

I think he's a franchise type guy, but I do think to win it all he'd either need a ridiculous supporting cast or (more likely) another superstar to play with.

I agree. Not to knock the guy because this applies with most.

According to the wires the Nets have a deal in place pending Melo signing the extension...and now the Knicks have kicked up their offer to include Felton.

Madness for the next 72hrs for sure.

if he truly wants to play in n.y. , the knicks shouldnt trade for him. have him become a free agent and sign him this summer.

doesnt he have the right to refuse any trade ?

Carmelo covers the first 2 categories and that's it.

He's not even close to being a complete player like Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Dwight Howard, or maybe even a couple of others...

Technically no. But considering most teams won't trade for him unless he signs an extension...he in essence does.

IMO Melo should just play out the string in Denver and wait until the Summer. If I was Melo I would want Felton to be part of what I was doing in NY.

A franchise player is someone like Garnett and Kobe where you can see a noticeable difference in the emotion of a team when they are in the lineup. Melo isn't one of them but he is fun to watch. It will be fun to have him in the eastern conf.
