*mods can toss this in the NHL forum if they want*

Very impressed with his one hour plus interview with Francessa.
Came across highly intelligent, well spoken, friendly, knows his sport.
Most of you know this, he was Stern's right hand man for 12 years in basketball before going to hockey.

I believe Bettman had the NHL back on the right track.

Canadiens don't like him, cause they think he try's too hard to sell hockey in off markets in the US instead of adding more Canadian teams where hockey is really popular. I'm guessing Dwayne may be from Canada?

RenoChazz is correct. But that doesn't get around the fact that NO ONE has grown the game more than Bettman since he's been in charge. He's the perfect guy for this job and he's excelled at it like no one else could. Attendance, TV ratings and overall interest in the game has never been higher. At the same time if I was Canadian, I'd prolly hate the bastard too.

Let me add. if you think it's on the right track and doing well now. Wait till the NFL and NBA strikes next fall. You know he's fully aware of the situation and is getting all his ducks in a row to capitalize on this situation.

Because while attendances plummet down south he is worried about the Oilers current arena situation or allowing Phoenix to not be moved to Winnipeg or Quebec City where it'd flourish.

I've been thinking the same thing, if both those sports go out, that'd be huge for Hockey, Especially now with HD and 50 inch screens, Hockey is much more exciting to watch on TV than it's ever been.

Those 2 cities already had a team and couldn't make it. He's smarter than to try them again.

Quebec city will get another hockey team , winnipeg Im not so sure but Hamilton is another strong option for the league.

Winnipeg didn't have the corporate sponsorship and the town income can't support a franchise. Quebec didn't have a stadium at the time. Their getting their ducks in a row now to build one...even without a current team, in hopes that should a team need to be moved or expansion happens...they'll be ready. But as of right now.....neither city can support a team. The same reason as why they don't have one now.

The Mapleleafs will do everything in their power to keep Hamilton from having a team

Bett-man is great for the NHL with his 5 million a year salary? :ohno:

Who is he on/telling the refs to be on today? LOL

What Canadians should do is hire a Hitman to bury him, and bring the NHL
back to Canada, tho' i'd do him for free! Just let me know when & where,
boys ;

Put three teams in Van, Mont, TO, & the rest elsewhere in the great white
north of igloos. Hamilton, Winnipeg, heck even Saskatoon, Banf & Hope!

:):)

And as far as the TU goes having ottawa doesnt hurt the leafs so why would one in Hamilton. The league will eventually do whats good for the league , and if they can get one situated in a market that will be profitable , then why not piss off the leafs owners . They are and always will be the most profitable sports franchise in the nhl.

I'm not sure. But evidently a team in Ottawa wouldn't dip into their pockets as much as one in Hamilton. In fact...when Basille got close to acquiring the Phoenix team....one of the bids that suddenly emerged was one rumored to be supported by the teachers union. That ought to tell you how much they want to keep a team out of Hamilton.

the worst thing that could have happened was a team purchased by a union. Great for them , not so good for anyone else
