Read that oil prices are going up 8% due to unrest in Libya. Just an FYI.

Seriously, can someone please explain this to me

How are gas prices so high? These companies are making record profits right? I am assuming its because they are charging so much?

There has ALWAYS been some country that is unstable that contributes oil, I am just not educated enough to understand why gas is 3 times as high as it was 10 years ago.

it all comes down to supply and demand , they got it , we need it

It's historically cheaper in the winter, looks like it might be $5 / gallon in the summer. Right now it costs me 20 cents a mile ( just in gas ) to drive somewhere....or say $20 to go somewhere 50 miles away and back. High gas prices can't be good for the economy....people won't have money to buy stuff at stores, restaurants, etc. One could easily be spending $100 a week on gas, pretty rough if you take home $600-700 a week which is a pretty decent job actually. You could easily be spending 10% of your income just on gasoline.

It's kind of hard to turn in an old F-150 ( worth 4-5k) that gets 17 MPG and spend 30-40k on some hybrid thingie that gets 40MPG....you'd have a huge payment. High gas prices have to be really bad for real estate prices too ! Tough to make a mortgage when you are spending $500 a month on gas or have a huge car payment on your newish battery car.

We have corn, no need for oil.....relax.

Support E-85

If you run cars on 85% ethanol then corn and everything made from corn ( tons of foods) will go sky high.....a good thing for those that own Iowa farmland....so you are biased.

Gas cars will be around at least another 5-10 years as the main method of transportation. Mass transit only works in certain places like NYC, not very practical in Southern California, for example.

Got me an E-85 car a couple years ago. Only time there really is a 'savings' is when there is more than 50 cent price difference because the E85 gets about 20% less mpg. Can't find the disparity on the price that often, but I still use the E85 when it is available. Much better to go with the alternative fuel as it is cleaner and offers less emissions

I think most cars built 2007 or so and later can handle e-85.

I'm no expert on using E-85 in a non-flex fuel car/ truck, but it does seem OK ?

I didn't watch the video yet.

Seems to me you'd only even see this fuel in the Midwest ? It ain't in CT ! Most consumers wouldn't buy it unless they thought their car could handle it, but I guess the Gov't thinks 10% is fine for any car. Then E-85 has to be cheaper than real gas ( by maybe 20%) to even choose it.

IMO, this is only viable in the cornbelt states....and it consumes low-grade cow corn...so what do you feed livestock when the corn is turned into "gas" ? Only turn a bit of corn into E-85, it's no solution, just creates another problem....even if E-85 works in any car, it might ?

you are hilarious

.we should be drilling for oil HERE at home instead we have environmental WACK jobs stopping us

I'll agree, time to take the oil we have here...eventually oil won't be so important....but it is still key for another 10 + years.

After that if we run out of oil, go steal it.....that's why we have the best military in the world by far !

I disagree I think we should wait till they(middle east) all run out, then we drill and give them the finger

...........and we can support the midwest farmer, who is struggling.
