Over. The Yankees don't have pitching and the Rays are way down. Blue Jays still have big holes and Orioles are not as improved as all of their injury concerns or aging signings suggest to the public. Boston is loaded on both sides of the ball and will win 100+.

89 wins last year with the injuries, everyone else in the division got worse, added Gonzo and Crawford, added big to horrible bullpen. I take the over, calling 99 wins.

Now that their healthy and with the moves they made, I would predict 102 wins

why do you people keep saying yankees dont have the pitching?????? the yankees said several times that they will make a move at the deadline for a frontline starter.. f-her, carpenter, johnson, etc etc .... also do you realize the yankees 5th starter is nova who throws 99, with a nasty curve...in his 8 starts last year he didnt give up a run until the 5th inning or beyond.. he is a good pitcher who had a 2.00 era in the minors and had numbers on par with hellickson on the rays who they say is the best pitching prospect in baseball......

WHIP near 1.50 indicates he's not ready. He needs another pitch or two. Yankees very well might get a guy at the break but right now Sabathia and Hughes are the only capable starters they have. Mitre stinks as a starter, Burnett has seemingly lost it, and Nova is too young and needs work. You going to rely on Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon? I'm not.

In NE people mostly worried about Salty...you know your team is in good shape when your main concern is a catcher who bats 8-9.

At 2-10, the Red Sox are reeling

That other teams have started 2-10 and made the playoffs isn't really the point. That the Red Sox are somehow only five games out of first place isn't either.
That this team needs to prove it has a heart is.
Fenway Park was a cold, unfriendly place for the Red Sox tonight. The crowd of 37,467 booed Clay Buchholz and Bobby Jenks. Carl Crawford heard it. So did Jarrod Saltalamacchia when he airmailed another throw.
In the end, there was a 7-6 loss to the Blue Jays. The Sox are not denying they're in trouble.
“We’re there now. We’re in a tough position. To come back right now it’s going to take all year long,” Jenks said. “We need to get on it now. We need to turn this thing around.”
The catching situation has become glaring. Jarrod Saltalamacchia is hitting .138/.297/.250. The pitching staff has a 3.46 ERA when Jason Varitek catches, a 7.93 when Saltalamacchia is behind the plate.
To be fair, that is based only only 76 innings for Saltalamacchia and 26 for Varitek. But a small sample size is all we have to go on. Opposing base-stealers are 10 for 12 against Saltalamacchia, too.
Saltalamacchia has a strong arm but his throwing mechanics are hit or miss. He double clutched a throw in the seventh inning tonight and fired the ball into center field. The Jays were baiting him to throw to first at one point because they had a runner on third.
Carl Crawford looks like a player in desperate need of a day off. But Jacoby Ellsbury (.195/.250/.366) hasn't been the answer atop the order, either. This team so far looks like a lot of glittery pieces that don't fit right.
Buchholz talked about the Sox rebounding, saying it was "a given." Maybe so. But there are no signs of that. Not yet.

id bet the UNDER 99.5 pitching is questionable right now, yes the hitting is great but they could coast late in the year if they are locked into the playoffs....gimmie the under 2nd half and i liked over the original 95 thats not a bad middle

Past history shows these two teams are like 150-150 in the last 300 they've played (or something like that).
I'm sure the Yanks will fight to abolish their current 1-8 record verse the Sox.

And considering the Sox only have to play .580 ball to finish the season I believe the over 95 wins is pretty safe.

I have to admit I'm worried. If Sox took one of the TB games I would have been OK. What 's going on and why does Francona not feel the urgency to play like there is urgency. The 10 game lead is gone ... it's time.
Al, Madison, Conn.
I think since you wrote this there is an urgency. The Red Sox got a real wake-up call in Tampa Bay. And most of the players now realize things are getting a little too serious. So now there is urgency and I think Terry Francona feels it. There’s always that balance you try to strike between trying to make sure your team is ready for the playoffs and also making sure you actually make the playoffs. I think they realize now, they’re going to have play to make the playoffs.

Fans on tilt at the minimum:
