The most I've ever had bet on a sports bet was a combination of $2750 on the game and total, and a $500 parlay on both. I was dealing with the NY-NJ legbreakers and HAD to win this game. It was a Rutgers game and I was laying about 9 points. Coming down to the final minute I had no chance to win UNLESS I caught a MIRACLE. Well a miracle I got, as Rutgers was up about 5 points, and hit a layup. They then stole the ball TWICE and got a layup and a three pointer within seconds. The other team missed a shot at the buzzer and I won the bet, which made up for more than the money I was stuck for the week. I was listening to this game on radio, and my wife thought I was nuts having my head glued to the stereo radio for the last 5 minutes of the game.
At the Stardust, I used to go on these "up and back" junkets for the day, and usually stayed over another night since I didn't have to go back to booking until Thursday. I would fly in on Monday night after MNF and go back to L.A. on Thursday morning.
The Stardust had $5-$2000 tables at BJ, and I used a progressive betting system. I would start with a $10 bet and increase 50% each time I won.If I lost, I would go back to my $10 bet. After 13 straight winning hands, I hit the maximum $2000 bet. I had $200 going for the dealer. After I won the first bet, I had another 2 grand on the bet circle. I got dealt a hard 17, and the dealer had a 6 showing.Couldn't have wanted a better situation. I stood and the dealer flopped over her hard 16. What more could you ask for? Well the dealer drew and caught an Ace for a push. I pulled back $1800 and had $200 going for me and $200 for the dealer. Now you have to realize that for about 5 hands in a row, I kept on beating the dealer by a "pimple"! She had 19, and I had 20. She had 20 and I drew and made 21. Well, this last hand I got dealt a hard 19. Wouldn't you know it, she finally made a 20 to beat me. I wound up taking a break and going to the bathroom. I had to be up about $4,500. Since I had covered my 4 hours of playing time to meet the junket requirements, I decided to continue to play and put out a $10 bet. They just had changed shifts, and the Asian lady who had just seen me collect $4000 and then pulled back to $200 gave me a strange look. But after losing my $10 bet, I picked up my chips and cashed out. You had to give them you players paper card in order to collect your $85 that you originally put up for your airfare to the hotel. She signed the card and almost threw it at me as I walked away from the table. I had this progression happen to me twice at the Stardust. Both times I won the bet and each time it was the end of my required 4 hours of playing. Most exciting thing that ever happened to me in BJ.
Sometimes I wish I had never learned video poker and was still playing BJ. It seems like I could always control my action in BJ, and move tables or quit when on a losing streak. In VP, I keep pouring in those $100 bills until I hit a jackpot or get stuck BIGTIME!
