Everyone should also be obligated to say what decade they grew up in and you'll discover everyone thinks the best bands came from their childhood.

I'm basically a child of the 70's. That decade had some great music. But as far as the hit single goes, it's the 60's vs the rest. There was more great groundbreaking music made in the decade of the 60's than all of the rest of the decades combined.

the 60's. When my daughter was younger she listened to a lot of current pop, rap, hip-hop. At 20 years old, she still listens to some of today's popular bands and music, but she has become a huge fan of 60's music.

It's hard to bet against the 60's with The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, Hendrix, etc. but I also like the hair bands of the 80's. It's when I was out on my own for the first time and MTV was just starting and we had a party at my apartment every weekend while drinking beer and watching MTV.

And don't foreget, the 60's was the best decade for Motown. Lots of great soul and R&B came out of that era. Many people hated the 80's. But as far as putting out the hit single, I thought it was the second best decade of pop/rock music behind the 60's. Although there wasn't a whole lot of memorable bands from that era, there were a lot of great songs. The 70's was a great period for what became FM Album Rock. How much you liked it just depends on your musical tastes I guess.

No brainer, 70's bands, especially the 70's bands that spilled into the 80's.
What did we have in the 70's?
Zep (Stairway) Eagles (Hotel California) Srpingsteen (Born to Run) Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel's Piano Man.
ELP, Yes, Floyd, Beatles, Stones..............

Come on!!

You guys probably already know of this band but they are a Beatles cover band that performs every song exactly like the way they sound on the album. Amazing.

No memorable bands from the 80's???

Van Halen, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Guns 'N Roses, Metallica, Rush, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Dokken, Twisted Fucking Sister, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Judas Priest, Bon Jovi, REO Speedwagon, Ozzy, Huey Lewis and the News, Bryan Adams, RATT, Billy Idol, Aerosmith (reincarnated), Whitesnake, Scorpions.

Those are just the rock bands. That's not counting the pussy music bands like the Smiths, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, INXS, etc. It's also not counting the single acts like David Bowie, Cindy Lauper, Robert Palmer, Don Henley, Lionel Richie.

I loved the 80's not sure how I survived it, but 90's music was the best for me. Nirvana was a movement back in the day !

Most of the bands you mentioned started in the 70's. And got popular through MTV in the 80's. But I was talking mainly about the pussy music bands like Culture Club, Duran Duran etc. Bands who put out 2 or 3 hit singles then disappeared. There were many many of these bands. Mainly coming from Europe.

80-90's Punk rock. If you knew who the right bands were, there was some good music there.
