Many here in Portland - I see about 3 or 4 everyday on my short walk to work.

Fishhead,With the price of everything going up would it be cost effective to do this as you do have to feed and clean up after the chickens and Im guessing the neighbors wont like this very much at all if you do it in a residential area.

Are eggs really THAT expensive to go through this?

Fishhead is turning into a Mexican !

I used to have neighbors that kept Roosters, most likely for fighting. I hated the fucking noisy things at sunrise !

2. They produce fertilizer for the garden
3. Pet
4. Eggs are fresh and hormone free

Will probably buy a coop in a year or so down the road and have 2 chickens.

Usually eat 25 or so eggs a week, so the cost benefit is a good one.

Well you don't need roosters to make hens lay eggs, so if you raise roosters they must logically be for fighting. It's not racist, it's cultural. Mexican culture has animal fighting ( cocks, bulls, etc.).

Why else would you have roosters, too cheap for an alarm clock ?

Come on fish ! I've lived on a farm most of my life and always raised chicken for the health reasons... not for any financial benefit. However your " Pet " comment pretty much ruined my monitor as I was right in the middle of swigging a tasty swallow of coffee ! Pet !!!! A Chicken has to be one of the most ignorant creatures on the face of this earth ! I'd rather have a Rhino as a pet than a chicken !

I think you can still get eggs for about $1.50 a dozen on sale. Raising chickens for $3 a week doesn't seem worth it to me. You still have to feed the hens.
